Only rap album I listened to a lot (20 years ago) was Psycho Realm. Great music and flow, too bad the general attitude was so stupid (like a lot of hip-hop unfortunately).

The message in this is as powerful and relevant today as it was nearly three decades ago.

Not an all time great album or anything, but one of my favorite records by one of the all time greatest MCs. DOOM by any other name... in this case that name is Viktor Vaughn

Speaking of DOOM, he and Madlib did actually release one of the all time greatest hip hop albums, Madvillainy. I’m sure most are familiar but here’s a taste anyway:

Speaking of Madlib... he’s had his hands in so many awesome projects the last twenty years. His early stuff with Lootpack and various Beat Junkies related stuff is unimpeachable, but it’s in the Stone’s Throw era when he embraces doing everything sideways and jacked up that he comes into his own. Prime example - Quasimoto’s The Unseen, which was composed and recorded during a two-week psilocybin bender:

There’s obviously so much more great stuff. I feel like any discussion of great hip hop that doesn’t eventually lead through the De La/Tribe/J Dilla axis isn’t worth having, but I have faith this thread will get there. KRS One and Mos Def both seem to be outre among younger fans, but they both have absolute all-time great records in their catalogs...

Sorry for the long-ass post guys. This may be the one subject I can still find some passion for, musty old records.
It began as a mistake.

Three 6 Mafia — Mystic Stylez
Scar Face — The Diary
Sensational — Loaded With Power
since you mentioned sensational, this one's sick:

It's a classic. Little Johnny from the Hospital was my first exposure but I quickly got Funcrusher and then Fantastic Damage. Unreal production. I wish Def Jux was still running. So many great records were coming out of there.

Any love for Dalek?

Long before Run The Jewels, and well after CoFlo folded up, El-P produced one of my favorite records *ever*, a concept album by Mr Lif called I Phantom:

Besides being a brutally insightful bit of eschatology, the production is peak Def Jux. Classic shit, and slept on.
It began as a mistake.

Have to post this for two reasons: one, it's still one of the best, and two because Grandmaster Flash is the first DJ to win the Polar Music Prize.Actually three because invented the genre.

Digable Plantes' Blowout Comb is one of my favorite albums. Period.
Playlist:

And Ishmael Butler's current work in Shabazz Palaces is singular--Also a great live show!

Moody vibes musically:

Newer work, their gentler side:

From their first album, head nod in effect:

Wow some exceptional rap for sure

Freddie Gibbs n Madlib were already posted but this is my fav, from their first album, aural adrenaline

Classic, of course Kool Keith is the man but Ced-Gee is really underrated

Another about depression/mental health, and maybe chopnscrew isn't technically rap, but the dj screw treatment works beautifully with point blanks lyrics

On a side note for Sensational fans, I have a wire mag anniversary CD with a track by him as Torture, the tracks called Soaking Bodies in Dub and its wild! I can't find anything else by him under that alias, are there any more?

I realized after it’s a compilation, doesn't seem to credit the actual artists. Going to listen to the rest later.

jay electronica was mentioned before. i really liked this one:
"dear moleskin" not the typical just blaze beat, but i really like this kind of production.
the original track didn't feature kendrick, but he's great too, so
