RIP Genesis P-Orridge

Post by phisynth » Sat Mar 14, 2020 4:55 pm

Just heard about his passing after a 2 1/2 year battle against leukemia.

Huge influence for me. So sad to learn this

One of the greats-- I got into experimental music thru Genesis' and related bands' work. I imagine this touches many of us here!

Unlike anyone else and always with something interesting to say. A true individual, RIP Gen

S/He was as complicated as s/he was influential. As horrid as s/he was wonderful. One of those rare individuals who leaves an impression on everyone s/he came in contact with. Not all positive impressions, not all negative impressions.

I'm not sure if s/he ended up being the resolution of opposites made flesh, but if not s/he got pretty damn close and inspired so many to try to be more themselves than they thought possible.

Persuasion is one of the most chilling songs, an achievement of a kind. Wiki hasn't caught up with the news yet if anyone wants to alter his entry.

Very saddened to hear this. Wasn’t a massive influence on me, but he basically invented industrial music, and massive amounts of respect for doing it.

There's no denying here that Throbbing Gristle era Genesis P-Orridge (along with his performance colleagues at that time) made a worthwhile contribution on how to live my life and question, for instance, the conditioning aspects of our societies. Liberation.

Just one TG was enough... didn't need repeating or emulating... that's just more conformism.

Despite the flaws, s/he contributed to a broad and balanced diet of life affirming influences to move forward with. Thanks for that.

Now that Gen has gone, the world is lacking one more original, only to be replaced with feeble copies, if at all.

Gen's work was important for a significant period of my life, and s/he changed me world-view at least in some respects.

late to the party (as usual), and i think the postings above contain everything i could ever fancy saying in memoriam of the life and works of Genesis P-Orridge. so i should probably just keep my mouth shut (or fingers still or whatever) since i don't have much that is particularly clever to add... but i will leave this here since it is still a favorite and seems vaguely appropriate...

cheers
