Some days it feels as though - artist by artist - the soundtrack of my life is coming to an end.

This is one of those days.

RIP Kenny.

Yeah.... this one makes me sad. I remember seeing that vinyl (with The Gambler) at my grandmothers house when I was a kid, she loved that album. It's so weird thinking back, my grandma didn't work, and she pretty much stayed in pajamas all day, laying in bed, listening to music. I didn't know it at the time, but she was always on pills, and drank beer. It was all out of sight though, and she was always sweet to me. Smoked cigarettes in bed back then, I'd go back and check on her and she'd be sitting up in bed, smoking, listening to something on the radio. I was 6 or 7 at this time...

As an adult, I never bothered to listen to Kenny Rogers, or country for the most part... just never gravitated to that genre, although I know there's some great artists in that genre (like any genre for that matter).

Seeing that Kenny Rogers has passed though just makes me feel sad that time keeps ticking away. A lot of his songs trigger childhood memories for me.

I heard an interview with him on the radio, didn’t seem to take himself too seriously, said he just had a good knack for choosing songs that would be hits.
