Florian Schneider R.I.P.

Post by ashleym » Wed May 06, 2020 9:33 am

I’m just hearing the great man has passed. What a legacy. Sad sad news

I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. My life would have been very different. He’s given me a life of listening to his music. Making music. Building synths. A career in audio. We even called our Mercedes florian

2020 sucks enough already with Corona.
first Gabi Delgado and now Herr Schneider :waah:

techno, house and multitude of genres would not exist or would have evolved in a very different way
this blank space left intentionally

The ecstatic melodic tones of Tongebirge, seemingly unbidden, entered my mind just this afternoon... and now, in the presence of this news... I'm heartbroken.

Kraftwerk, in which his spirit lives on, has greatly enhanced this life and many others for sure. A fine 'living' legacy.

RIP Florian

I was in the garage with my 8 year old son when the news came over the radio. They played the full 23 minutes of Autobahn so we had a little dance and I started to cry. RIP

Fuck seriously? Oh man, I’m in absolute shock about this. Just when I thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse.

RIP Florian. You will be greatly missed.

I’m stunned....

I bought Trans-Europe Express without ever hearing it based on its reputation and I still remember the first listen-- got into all the other Kraftwerk albums right around then. I think it's fair to say one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.

In case anyone hasn't read one of the obits the cause of death was cancer.

I never knowingly heard Kraftwerk until sometime in the '90s. I say knowingly because I got a surprise when I first listened to The Man Machine. It turned out what was then CBC Saskatoon had used looped bits of "Spacelab" and "The Man Machine" as technical difficulties and just before sign on, music in the early '80s. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find examples of that on YouTube.

A small picture:

I can remember my dad playing Computer World on our stereo at home, I was 5 or 6 at the time.
I got such a kick out of Pocket Calculator, still do. Numbers sounded so hard. Computer Love was like a daytime lullaby.
My mom from another room, "You can't beat a good synthesizer!"
Never heard anything like it, and I loved it.

Grateful for my parents taste in music, grateful for Kraftwerk.
