Tipper

this record is incredible, thank you for posting this! do you know anything about how this was produced? There non stop movement on this is staggering.
Tipper is an ITB producer with incredible attention to detail and micro edits.
Dave Tipper - firstly is an electronic music legend. Lets start there. Start with inhuman gobs of talent.
Then, start adding DAWs :P

I dont know much about Dave's production process...but he's been at it for a LONG....LONG time. releasing breaks since 1996. He's got 2 sides - uptempo breaks with wicked bass leads. and the ambient/triphop side which i've linked here. There are very few producers who's music make me think "fuck me mate just how the fuck did you do that?" and yes - it is staggering :)

"Greatest" is always going to be a bit subjective, as is "electronic" (and even "song" - does that mean it has to have lyrics?).

My £0.02...

Not merely a great synth-based track, but one heck of an inspirational song: "But if you can stand the test / You know your worst is better than their best". The 'extended' middle eight also takes it into what I consider to be 'epic single' territory...

Probably not the first on anyone's list of 'electronic songs', but it's the synths that really make this track...

Love it or loathe its '70s cheesiness, it was tracks like this which pushed synths into the mainstream...

It may stop, but it never ends.

My Rack - v1.0

Why are almost all of the entries from before 1990?

No Björk, BoC, Broadcast, James Blake, Kaytlin Aurelia Smith, LCD SS, Wu Tang, Thom Yorke, or...Miley Cyrus?!

:miley:
I'm an old fart, so I like old music ;) Actually, I do like a lot of new music, but when we say "greatest", well, maybe it is nostalgia, but some of the originators back in the 60s, 70s and 80s seem to stand out. On the other hand, there have been a few songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s mentioned in this thread that, well, I would choose, something like this first:

But then, it does sound a little like an 80s thowback, doesn't it?

This is a cool release https://www.discogs.com/Tipper-Presents ... ter/109401

But I really loved playing the Buckfunk 3000 - High Volume track on this in my breaks sets at the time (Simon Begg). Great to mix with. Dance floor loved it.

Moments In Love by The Art Of Noise is the greatest electronic song ever.
This is hilarious. Just went to youtube to listen to this song and was surprised to find out that I've heard it a thousand times before. Literally.

Where I worked for years this song would play everyday. A lot of times more than once. I never knew who it was. It got to the point where it made me and one other co-worker enter a state of rage and anger every time it played. We hated this song so much that after years of hearing it five days a week it came on one too many times and my coworker flipped out and went into the room the internet radio was hooked up in and ripped it out of the wall. The station was locked and we couldn't do anything about it but that.

Surprisingly not only did he not get fired but they finally gave us control of the internet radio. I guess sometimes destruction is the answer.

I don't think that it's possible for me to name one greatest song. So how about two, from one specific genre.

Here are my two favorite ambient songs by two of the most influential ambient musicians.

Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent)

Aphex Twin - Rhubarb

Always thought this BoC track had something for appeal beyond the hard core fans. Wish they'd done a bit more of this 'bold' strokes type of sound picture. I like BoC but always felt their 'nostalgic' wonky turntable/tape effect elsewhere was a bit 'one-trick' and overused.

I have always been awestruck by this piece from BoC.

It really hits you hard, reaching into the deepest recesses of the mind, of long-forgotten memories, of my childhood in Brooklyn during the 70s.

The piece reminds me of graphitti-coated subway cars, Bill Bixby sitcoms, ice cream soda at Eddie's Sweet and autumn afternoons....

Mu-ziq definitely has some greats on that album^^^

Big fan of a couple tracks on Drukqs though how to spell them?

Too many great Autechre tracks to choose one especially on recent albums. I think what Autechre has been doing is the pinnacle of modern electronic music so far.

Great selections here, but nobody has mentioned Tangerine Dream's Love on a Real Train yet?
I was gonna say that one as well. Absolute anthem!

Speaking of anthems.

Just picking some of my favourite already mentioned:

Human League - Being Boiled
The Normal - Warm Leatherette
Skinny Puppy - Smothered Hope
Donna Summer- I feel love
Anne Clarke - Sleeper In Metropolis
Gary Numan - Metal

aww... there are too many great songs, which in one way or another are fundamental and historical landmarks in the (popular(or let's agree to danceable)) electronic music.

Mh, I don't see "O Superman" from Laurie Anderson ...

The Heavenly Music Corporation - Fripp & Eno

This particular video is only a few minutes of the whole track, but the last 2+ minutes of the original 21 minute track are just wonderful.

Ageispolis - Aphex Twin

This is one of my favourites, but it has to be played loud on a very good system to apprciate it fully!
