I used to setup sideways, but I had a huge modular that if I stood behind you wouldnt see me at all, and I find it really weird when modular live acts face the audience but behind their gear, so you cant see anything they're doing, it makes it a bit pointless performing live.

Now Ive reduced the size of my rig and lay it almost flat and face the audience, so I can see them and they can see what I'm doing

Facing the audience because I find joy in looking towards people. Sideways when playing with other musicians.

focus should always be on the music itself, not the gear.. imo

i'd rather make myself and my gear as inconspicuous as possible and let the soundwaves speak for themselves and be the star
don't forget to dance!

I’ve done it both ways. The lid of my case is tall and I feel like it blocks the view when facing the audience. Sideways at least let’s them see something. I don’t like the idea of back facing because they probably can’t see much but your back. It depends on how I’m feeling

I prefer to face the audience with my gear Angled downward away from me. That way the audience and I can ask see everything.

Is the best of all world's!

I settled on facing the audience (usually standing, but sometimes sitting) with a screen off to the side. Screen shows what I'm doing on the rack or table. That way people can look at me or the more interesting blinking of colored lights.
