Any takes on nature sessions
haven't done this before but i want to take some gear to the nature. i want to be able to catch sounds from a river, forest, etc.
i know a place close to where i live to able to do that with my field recorder, but how would i supply power for my rack if its you know out there? it might be a silly question lol but i would like to hear different takes on what other people did.

Oh god, the nature modular thing is what the succulent and cat crowd do next, often. It's next-level social media cliché.

If you play your modular in a forest but didn't film it did it happen?Kattefjaes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:22 pmOh god, the nature modular thing is what the succulent and cat crowd do next, often. It's next-level social media cliché.

Re: Any takes on nature sessions
I used to go around and hike with a small case. It was as interesting way to kind of zone out and jam after ten or fifteen miles of backcountry slogging. Was also a nice way to fill some time while waiting for fish to bite. I ended up building a 42hp case based around elements (Quarks) and some modulators as well as a pico vco for fm.
Never filmed it though, so maybe it never happened.
Power was supplied with an anker charger and an MMI usb power supply. Would route this to a zoom recorder if I liked what was coming out. You can actually get a decent amount of juice and play time out of the larger anker bricks and they have nice shutdown characteristics if you happen to have any issues.
Are you planning on field recording, then processing through a small rig, or dragging 6u out there?

Re: Any takes on nature sessions
dont let the haters chase you off from something you might get joy from! Why should we consider it less acceptable than playing any other instrument outdoors? And who said anything about social media? I love playing my flute outside, and I love just as much playing my battery powered synths.3hands wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:16 amWell I was going to do this... maybe not now :pKattefjaes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:22 pmOh god, the nature modular thing is what the succulent and cat crowd do next, often. Yep quite a bit of cynical projection from some people in this thread. It seems to have scared off op. Ribbing each other when you know one another is one thing, but this would discourage a lot of folks if they found this thread googling and were just starting out. If you're reading this op, gates are open! Happy to give advice and power solutions for enjoying synths in nature!finalplane wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 4:25 pmAnd who said anything about social media?3hands wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:16 amWell I was going to do this... maybe not now :pKattefjaes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:22 pmOh god, the nature modular thing is what the succulent and cat crowd do next, often. Re: Any takes on nature sessions
Ohhh ok for a second I thought this was about Michael Pisaro sort of microsound things but this is about bringing modular into nature. Okay.
Honestly if I did bring it into the woods I'd want some way to incorporate the woods itself into the audio. Like an Ears with a field mic to capture leaves rustling or snap an Instruo Scion to a giant sequoia.
Are there battery-driven/rechargeable skiffs out there?

Polyend poly anywhere Can power up to 10 or 12 modules (obviously depending on draw) on a portable power bank. I have one, but I haven’t built a proper case for it yet. One of those and a blackbox or H6 to record and you’re all set. Cheap too

There's a pretty good argument for being as completely ridiculous as possible right now, mind, because fuck it.

Re: Any takes on nature sessions
seen this the other week and was like peak modular has been reached, but if floats your boat, go nuts.
Nothing wrong with being a hipster but that’s doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect a ribbing for being one.
Goths, metal heads etc were able to handle it, so think hipsters should be fine.
