The slide potentiometers have arrived this week (all 2000!), 45mm equivalent to Bourns but with dust trap and suitable for ARP style coloured caps. Here is a picture:

Looking forward to this.
Will you be putting up 'work in progress' video demos of the build
like the TTSH project?

Any visibility on when these will be available yet?

this looks great! is there a way to add patch points easily? seems to be a waste to have all these great sounding modules but no modular way to access them. what are the plans for i/o for this synth?

I'll be buying which ever comes first.
The Karp Odyssey or this.
Both Korg and AMSynths are being very quiet about their projects,
which is incredibly frustrating.

it will be interesting to see if this one sounds like an old arp. im a big arp fan and have an ody and its a very raw sounding synth. all of the reissues like oberheim sem, korg ms-20 sound more refined than their vintage counterparts to my ears .. which is obvious with modern parts. my guess is the only way to get the sound right is use old style parts like macbeth does. whats in the athena?

also why use sliders? for the looks? sliders die very quickly and are big and difficult to adjust compared to pots. just wondering ;-)

Athena Project Status Update 11/10/14

The Athena project is still continuing into production but has been delayed by a few months. The main PCB prototype has problems with the VCO's not fully working, so we are redesigning the synth into 2 PCB's. This will provide more PCB space and enable us to add extra features, to differentiate the synth from the Korg Odyssey "exact replica". The new feature set is:
  • Supersaw waveforms
    Sub Osc waveforms
    Upgraded LFO, S&H and Noise
Revised VCO frequency control with encoder and display
Prototypes of the new design will be tested in November and we will share pictures and sound samples. We are also launching a PCB and panel for a single VCO synth, the Aqua. This is 3U high EuroRack friendly, 84HP wide with similar feature set but only one VCO and one ADSR. web page here AQUA

Details and news will be posted here on both synths as we go thru the Autumn months.

AQUA looks like a great little synth.
I see a lot of potential here, especially with two cross-patched or even hardwired!
The filter modules is a great idea. There might be times you want a different filter in a non-modular setting, but owning several similar monosynths just wouldn't be practical (or financially possible!)
What other filter options do you have in mind?
SSM2040 (HM2040), Ladders (Transistor or Diode), Diode-ring, ARP Oddysey MK I... Exciting stuff!
Is the HPF the same sort of thing as the one on the AM8105?

How dependent is assembly on using the top PCB?
Does it only have the switches, slide pots, LEDs etc mounted on it, or is there circuitry on-board too?
I ask because I swore off 3.5 jacks and this could make a cute (in no way implying anything bad!) little keyboard monosynth if hooked up to a Doepfer MKE.
Aha! Just saw your Alpha keyboard retrofit! Perfect partner for the Aqua!
Any chance they will be available around the same time?

Are there mounting holes on both boards? Hope so - if I can do away with the top PCB and connect normal pots (not slide pots) using flying wires, I will (just my own silly preference though!)

Also, how far off do you think AM8120 Minerva Dual VCO is?
If that is available as a kit and the PCBs have mounting holes, it might be fun to omit Aqua's own VCO and hardwire the AM8120 in its place.
Instant mono Jupiter-X with a dedicated Vibrato LFO!

Or perhaps two Aqua's and an AM8120 hardwired together like some Roland Jupiter 8 / Yamaha CS-15 hybrid! :hyper:

Is the Athena still an ongoing project or has it been shelved due to others entering the Odyssey clone arena?

Love to know as I'd so like to build one.

The Athena project has been restarted and the errors in the prototype pcb solved. Demos of the prototype will be online in the next few weeks and a second prototype ordered with some design improvements. The plan is to sell pcbs, panels and a metal boat so customers can build a desktop synth rather than a rack mount.

Work on an upgraded Axxe and Little Brother are also progressing well.

Excellent news.

I'm definitely up for an Athena and maybe the Axxe too, but I have a real Little Brother so will pass on that.

Excited at the desktop synth option. Still in if/when there are going to be PCBs for sale, my TTSH needs a little friend...
Warm thank you to everyone for the past 10 years. I'm not active here anymore for personal reasons, so for those I've had the pleasure of dealing with please send an e-mail instead of PM if you wish to get in touch.

I'm in for a Little Brother to complement my MkI Arp Ody.
Will the AMS Little Brother be as compatible as the original to the original Odys?

Hi
The Athena project was paused after the Korg Odyssey was released in 2014, and it is unlikely I will restart an Odyssey clone as the ready made Korg version is very good..

However other ARP clone projects are moving forward, starting with an ARP 1623 Sequencer which is nearing PCB design completion. It will be a populated PCB (SMD), with boot and panel. Available as a kit or completed.

The Little Brother with some additions to the original will also make it into a product in 2017 followed by some 2500 modules in a completed synth.

In Eurorack we are working on ring mod, dual vco and AR/ADSR
modules. Progress is slow in 2016 due to a very busy day job.

Best Regards

Thanks for the update. Pity about the Athena but I understand the reason.
