ZI VCO?

Post by zerosum » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:37 am

It's a popular request, but it still feels like a gamble to commit funds and time to prototyping my VCO ideas into a commercial product.

If you want a feature packed and flawless oscillator that tracks a million volts per octave,
There are a lot of them out there. Get one of those.

If you are interested in a strange drone machine with tubes no one has ever heard of being used for audio....well then I think you might find this interesting.....and a very beautiful piece of sculpture

Should I start prototyping this now?
Or should I wait until later?

There is no getting around it, this would consume a lot from your power supply,
but it wouldn't be anything that the robust supplies that synthesizers.com offers couldn't handle.

If I could sell 10, that would be great.
This is truly the definition of WEIRD

When I get the tubes, I'll take a picture.
There aren't enough words for the beauty  (trust me you will agree)

Based upon my user requirements, I'd have to ask if it could somehow ride in a Buchla natively or via MM format. Also, what would it bring to the party that would be different from the R-54/55 and Wretch?

I'd love to hear 'er!

Well..... For you I think we could work something out.
I would be willing to investigate the possibilities of it working in a Buchla power distribution system, but it would still consume a lot.
I think it is something you would be interested in checking out ;)
It will still run on +-15 and +5, which the Buchla power system can provide,
but you wouldn't be able to run as many modules on the same supply.
Also....this one wouldn't fit in a "stackable folding" case :)

Also, what would it bring to the party that would be different from the R-54/55 and Wretch?
HAHA the golden question!

-Completely different tube(s)
-Different behavior and waveshape

Overall, The Wretch Machine Oscillator section is still the ultimate.
I have used a lot of Metasonix thingies, and that Wretch machine osc section thinger-ma-thing is pretty cool :yay:

This one would definitely score more points in the "it looks cool" category,
but soundwise and featurewise, The Wretch will still win.
The R54 is a lot different too, as it generates a sine wave and then that sine gets perverted into other shapes with the additional makeup gain,
This/these things I am interested in exploring would generate different waveforms and the tracking would be all over the place.
Lustmord would know what to do, but I don't think I can say the same about ELP

Send me an email and we can work out a skype or phone chat to talk more

:hail:

As you might have guessed ;), I am with Kent on this one. Want one so much for my little 2 Space or as a standalone. :sb:

Maybe it could track a little bit on audio like the wretch or the r54? But if it screams and growls, i am pleased! :nana:

Thanks :)

First two are just adjusting the tune knobs with some delay from the Mangler on an aux send.

Third one is a Wretch machine being processed through the 2050/5823 osc prototype. No delay :hihi:
It gives you an idea of how it will sync/process external sources.

As far as availability, it will be a few months at least.
There will be some other modules that will come out first,
but this one is definitely the crowning piece, I want this thing to be done more than anyone else :hihi: I'm going to have two of them!

The 2050 is a buzzy fucker, no doubt.
The 5823 is the screaming howler.

There is a lot of voltage on that PCB,
It's not safe to be handling,
the videos and sounds were made within
my first hour of seeing the prototype.

When I get something behind a panel, I'll explore and document more...
I guess I have to design a panel.... :zombie:
