At 00.18/00.19 secs.

It always drived me crazy and always forgot to ask here. WTF is that? When I was very very young like elementary school Pink Floyd was my fav band so I asked my father, he replied it was the aliens :cthulhu:

At 0.18/0.19 seconds, sure you have the pad but suddenly appears this crazy little sound, it lasts 1 or 2 seconds

Starting around 0:18 my guess is a slide guitar through a tape echo. (steel guitar or "slide" - David Gilmore used both in recording)

Definitely sounds like that- a guitar string slide through a tape echo setup or an Echorec, with possibly a bit of flanging or phasing to spice things up

You're right, I think Floyd used the Bison Echorec. I always thought it was a tape echo, but after reading your comment looked it up: "an analog magnetic drum recorder instead of a tape loop."

A sampled tape of Syd's stomach rumbling, found in the Piper out-takes, put through tape flanging played backwards at double speed.

It's the sound of Roger moaning about his dad, played backwards.

Seems plausible to me, but I know I've read that the sound-collage elements in "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" came from the abandoned Household Objects album project, so it's possible that it's something a little loopier. Looks from Wikipedia like that material was included as a bonus on one of the later reissues, so I guess one could check and see.

Edit: well, if "that sound" was from the project, it's not in the corresponding track ("Wine Glasses") on the reissue...must've been added later.
