Arches

Post by JM Midnight » Sat Mar 09, 2019 10:54 pm

Buongiorno!

I have seen that Soundmachines has released ARCHES on Perfect Circuit. It's one thousand USD, and I'd say that's a fair price. It combines Lightstrips and Lightpads in a Buchla-style workflow. I like that. Currently, I'm in need for a solid controller for my Eurorack, and I much prefer touchplates over keys. I own a Minibrute 2/S, but that is more for sequential control. I have a little Monotron Delay and I adore it's unconventional controller, but I would like to own a controller like the Delay that would command a Eurorack-style rig.

Does Arches have a sequencer and arpeggiator? I have seen videos of it demonstrated, but I could not figure out if Arches hosted these features internally or if you had to have it trigger other sequencers or arpeggiators.

Any feedback would be helpful as I am about to buy this kit in a couple of weeks.

Hi there!
Yes, arches can host up to three arpeggiators (each with its own notes, cv and midi outputs etc..), one step sequncer and 5 trigger sequencers (8 step).
The firmware that will be available friday will include the new sequencers and many improvement including sync capabilites etc..
We also will publish the new manual.
You can find the current version of the manual here:

Hey-o!! I dig my Arches, how is the firmware development coming along?? Just found this thread and I've had my arches for about as long as the thread has been quiet.

David is onto a new project with Artinoise, so maybe that's where all his time has been. Dealing with R&D of that.
I'd like to think he hasn't abandoned his Soundmachines projects or company or customers.

I wonder if any of the claimed features of that project exist or whether he'll just scam a whole new audience with another half baked 'product'.

That's kind of mean. Arches works very well. It's not "Half baked" yes it could deal with some minor improvements, but that in no way means it isn't a complete and functional interface.

You must have got very lucky then. Mine is neither complete nor functional as an interface. As of now, it’s a pile of worthless junk. It’s so problematic that I wouldn’t dream of trying to sell it on as it is, so it s just taking up cupboard space here. And if it hasn’t been abandoned by David it’s doing a really good impression of something that’s been abandoned.

Sorry to hear that man. Did you update to the most recent FW? I'm obviously not tied to this at all, and I hope someone chimes in to help you out.
