Quantizing diatonic scales

Post by navymaker » Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:34 pm

I got uTune and initially planned to use it as quantizer for diatonic scales, so I have a question about choosing a key and transposing diatonic scales.

For example I have a diatonic major scale:
100.000000000 <inactive>
300.000000000 <inactive>
600.000000000 <inactive>
800.000000000 <inactive>
1000.000000000 <inactive>
My oscillator tuned to C, and I'm getting C D E F G A B at output. When I'm trying to transpose it to 2 semitones, I'm getting D E F G A B C D instead of expected D E F# G A B C# D.
I can tune my oscillator to D and get expected shift, but is this the only way to do that(or use adder)? Or I'm missing something?
Maybe you can add to firmware some kind of root note setting for diatonic scales and also different kind of transposition(and make it also as a setting, not only from cv input) as it made in other common quantizers such as Intellijel uScale?

As you have noticed, 'transpose' currently works on the input note. So the scale mask remains fixed and only the active notes are used.
I agree a second kind of transpose needs to be implemented that also shifts the mask.
Will do so - and also as you suggested implement this as parameters in menu (that's on the TODO list anyway).

By the way: 'Shift' will shift the mask, but not the pitch. So it will change the scale degree. Not what you are looking for, but wanted to mention it anyway.

Is there any progress about that? I asked in another post about roadmap of bug fixes/new features, it will be very useful to know how work is going, because currently module software looks pretty abandoned.
