Semi generative cross connected synthesis

Post by BananaPlug » Tue Oct 13, 2020 2:48 pm

I'm fascinated by generative synthesis but what I find myself doing is not a pure example of that. I do rely on cross modulation and some chaos as well as more regular modulation sources and orderly clock dividers. There is a lot of intermingling of voices and effects. Relationships emerge from simpler elements.

It's on-the-spot production, without sequencers, samplers, or post production. The patches run along on autopilot for awhile before knobs need twiddling. Composition, if that's not to strong a word for it, consists of guiding these structures, mixing, and adjusting parameters.

Here's an example, hope you enjoy it: "Messages" 4:36

Me too, and much of the other stuff you've been posting elsewhere recently. Whatever you decide to call it, it's a style of patching that appeals to me.
Is it finished?

The more we embrace the potential complexity of even a relatively simple patch, the more generative that patch becomes.

Here's something along the same lines but from a small euro system. Still working on that.

Any chance of sharing these somewhere that doesn't require Flash Player. (It's been about a decade since the tech industry, collectively, said good bye and good riddance to Flash, and for good reason.)

Edit: Seems to be something about the player; works in Chrome. You could link to the raw MP3s, though, since you're hosting them anyway.

Very nice, though! It's kind of an ambient, generative soundscape of sorts.

Exactly!
Thanks for the feedback on the website. It's overdue for a remake. Meanwhile you can get the file directly using a slightly different url.

Adobe finally waved goodbye to Flash last week, too - at least on my computer (not that I've actually run it for ages). A pop-up appeared on my screen from Adobe, saying they were no longer supporting it and would I like to get rid of it?

Done. No more Flash, ever :tu:

:coffee:
Just to recap.

Three twins! What I've posted in this thread is from 100hp of euro modules. It's in a two row frame built deep enough to fit a six year-old Klangbau Koln Twinpeak Filter. I doubled down with a Klangbau Koln Twinpeak Resonator. An oscillator seemed necessary and that's a Klavis Twinwave.

The rest of the modules are what makes it semi generative cross connected synthesis. That 'semi' is about keeping it simple and playable even if that means being less than 100% generative. In these early tests I'm still doing some drop-add, trying out patches and mostly letting them run, listening to the patterns.

Here's today's artifact.
