SNAZZY FX:TIDAL WAVE--new giant module /voice/folder/Vcf/etc

Post by loss1234 » Fri Dec 19, 2014 4:46 pm

I Am posting this here so that everyone
Can hear about this

Snazzy FX
NEW VOICE MODULE and audio processing module.
individual jacks for all sections and individual outs too.

TIDAL WAVE (20hp)

( voice module / 1/v oct sine wave / four pole filter / vc wave folder with three controls/ vc mixer/feedback & distortion section with two modes/
Attack-Release envelope with three auto trigger modes ( one random
W threshold) /vca/ internal routing of cv , as well as selectable routing of lfo

Here a few videos of finished module (with temporary
Panel)

Info:

1. cv wave folder/ waveshaper with cv control of initial
Wave as well as an attenuverter to modulate the wave
With internal or external cv sources
Also three parameters to mold
the shape .

2. Vcf four pole filter with 2 resonance modes and nice 1/v oct sine wave which when processed through the wave folder can work as a vco/signal source! Which means the Tidal Wave , in conjunction with the other onboard shaping and modulation sections can work without any other modules!!
And if us

Note...the routing switch allows the user to select two paths at the flick of a switch

Path A =(folder module /comb filtering , etc) input signal into vc wave folder then Into Vcf...then into two sides of the vc mixer ( as phase opposed signals )

Path B = VCF OR 1/v oct sine wave into VC WAVE FOLDER (for plenty
Of non -sine shapes!) then either into vc mixer

3 . Vc mixer/crossfader !!!!!
with selectable sources for each side

(This is the heart of the module for creating comb filtering or phasing effects .... Three modes
A:DRY/WS (wave shaper)
B: VCF/DRY
C: VCF/WS

AS YOU TURN THE MIX DIAL AND/or use mix cv, you mix together two sound sources which are phase opposed...this creates peaks and valleys....in combination with the modules many modulation options , the attenuverters allow for negative and positive sweeping of the Vcf or the wave folder ....sounds from SQUELCHY /ACID leads to punchy percussive tones to sub bass to downright weird ambient sounds can all be achieved

4. FEEDBACK & transistor distortion section with two modes

5. VcLfo with sine/tri/sqr for internal routing AND external jack

The internal lfo switch allows the user to send a
DIFFERENT set of waveforms
At the same time to the vc
mixer and cv bus for
interesting timbral effects

6. Lin fm input on filter

7. Internal auto trigger section with multiple inputs.(including
Threshold based random trigger )

8. Built in attack /release envelope with output ...auto trig is patched
Into the envelope

9.Internal CV and LFO bus ! Allows for routing the internal modulation sources throughout the module (including envelope and lfo )

10. Built in VCA. (with external cv input) and external input
NORMALS to vc mixer patched into the signal
And Envelope into the cv

11 . Internal envelope can be used internally as a cv source even when the vca is being controlled by an external envelope

12. Attenuverters galore for plenty of sound exploration power!!!!

13. Audio to trigger section with adjustable threshold

14. Extensive routing, patching, selection system
Allows many different sound and cv
Setups for exploration with simple switches.
Perfect for live use! AND EVEN THOUGH
THE ROUTINGS ARE EXTENSIVE, it's easy to over- ride them
By plugging in a cable as every essential parameter has a jack

Available in about 4 weeks!!

Retail Price only $465!!

MBII: just so you know...it's actually pretty roomy
I spent many hours agonizing over just how
To arrange stuff and I'm very happy with how the spacing FEELS

every decision was aimed at playability..,how to make it feel
Both self contained enough to feel like an instrument but also how
To make it play well with others

I can't wait for people to try it !

I would like to see what it can do when it's sequenced and modulated externally!

WOW, that looks brilliant!

The routing options are very well thought of it seems, and by the looks of it, very playable too! nice work :hail:

as soon as I have a chance I'll post
1. A line level recording
2. a video showing it sequenced externally
3. I'll post a good panel shot for modular grid

And I'm happy to answer any questions !!

Well this looks and sounds like a really rad module :sb:

I also appreciate that there are "attenuverters galore, instead of just basic attenuators, that make the tidal wave even more interesting to me.

It's so cuute an' tiny!

Can I adopt it?
Calling a circuit that outputs the maximum of several sources "analog OR" makes as much sense as calling a ring modulator "analog XOR" ...

After looking a the panal for a little bit I have a few questions:

Just to clarify the audio oscillator is just a sine wave oscillator with no other wave shapes, correct? (it is up to the users to make more complex waveforms with the wave controls and fm)

Is it possible to run external audio through the wave control section.

Can you put external audio in the filter (it looks like you can but I just want to double check)?

What is the frequency range of the LFO?

What is the frequency range of the VCO?

yes this is correct.
this module is meant to be used in one of two ways.

1 as a SYSTEM where all functions inter-relate and in that system, mode 2 is
literally a complete 1/v oct voice with a typical vco range (from very low to very high...but not into super ultra freq or into super sub audible....figures will be coming soon) with the included mode 2... you wont ever need to feel its "just a sine" as unless you take your output out of the vcf output, it would never be a straight sine. especially with the feedback, lin fm, and vc wavefolder with 3 controls.

or

2. as a separate wave folder and vcf and vca

in both cases you can process tons of audio!!! there are so many jacks to access different points on the module.

please know that as soon as i can i will be making new videos which go into more detail.

and i will be putting up a block diagram, etc.

the two main ways i have been using this module for many many months has been as a COMPLETE STAND ALONE SYNTH or as a crazy audio processor

YOU CAN EVEN PLUG AN ELECTRIC GUITAR DIRECTLY INTO THIS MODULE AND IT WILL PROCESS IT AND GIVE YOU A EURO COMPATIBLE AUDIO YOU CAN PASS ON TO OTHER MODULES

oh and the vclfo has a good range but is far more focused on the lower end than the higher end.

please remember specs will be forthcoming

its taken me 11 months to get it all designed the way i like it and to get the panel just right

please remember every effort has been made to make this module work as an instrument and my favorite way to use it so far is with just a handful of modules.

i saw it as a way to aid those making live music with modulars (like myself)
because literally with just a one row system on the subway, i can now have many functions.

i hope this begins to answer some questions

EVERYTHING IS EASY TO OVER-Ride but there are many ways to use this module with Only one or two cables plugged in

or you can go nuts and use every jack

thanks

What is the oscillator being used at the beginning of the fourth video (it's the feedback demo)?

thanks!

Dense amount of functions. I really like how you are focused on live performance. :tu:
