basic cabinet build..

ok basic question..

don't have access to modules where I am right now..
but I am building a 110 cabinet (madness)
I'm not building a unit with visible dividing shelves.. the shelves I'm building are set back 4mm... the modules will sit flush without visible diving shelves..

ok.. I'm using 18mm(0.708 inch) "dividing" shelves.. is this wide enough to screw in an "upper and "lower" module using that single width..?
or will I need a double shelf..?

and pros and cons might help

I'm not able to verify it on my system right now, but according to notes I took when I measured my Portable 22 cabinet last year, the center mounting rail is about 18 mm.

I presume you're talking MU modules rather than MOTM?

Well, the drawing shows that the distance from the top edge of the panel to the center of the mounting hole is 0.175" and I would add that amount again from the center of the hole to below it which adds up to 0.35" and that leaves you 0.05" clearance between the rail and the panel flange. And then 2 x 0.35" = 0.7" which should be able to handle a panel row above and below.

I was juggling some modules around this morning in my Portable 22 cabinet and remembered this thread. I measured the middle shelf using a tape measure and got .75 inch. You can pretty much bet that defutura's measurement, John L Rice's calculation and your own guesstimate are all on the money. Happy building!

18 mm will work just fine.
This is a picture of my old cabinet with an 18 mm wooden rail between two rows.

What sort of wiring harness will you be using? That's a pretty big cabinet. A PSU will need to be pretty big to power that whole thing, and the only place on your cabinet design that can support that weight is sitting on the bottom shelf. I don't think a DOTCOM 40 space harness will reach all the way to the top.

got the big 110 space dotcom power..

was going to see if it attached between the two support brackets(visible but not fixed in place yet) and have it 1/3(or so) of the way up ..
if not on the base and get breakout boards cables..

Most people paint or stain their brackets black. I see you already have them mounted, but chalk board spray paint works really well. It so absorbent, that it's almost impossible to make it run during spray on. It's also very durable. And cheap.

Just a suggestion.

good spot.. not finished yet

got a support beam for the bottom back and going to run one at same height as the first shelf for the two power management modules (on/off switch .. power in)
also going to build a little cage(bottom right) for my two half size cotk quad sub osc outputs.. cp2 cp8

was going to do the outside in bed liner paint as well.. but cant be arsed.

It is heavy.. but not too heavy.. like a tv of similar size.. perhaps a little more.. 1 person can lift it.. not easily but it is movable..

cost around £40 ish to build.
