That's awesome! Frees up just enough space for me that I can get another Disting :sb:

Given that it's USB 2.0 class-compliant - do you expect it to work on Linux?

I don't expect anything to work on Linux ;)

Really, I don't know. I've used Linux in the past but never for audio. No experience there at all, sorry.

Harsh, but fair ;-)

If it's really class compliant, it should 'just work', though I know lots of USB Audio class compliant devices have custom mixer interfaces which make it 'just not work' (untill someone hacks at ALSA)

If I were to say, go ADAT through to my MOTU interface rather than setting up an aggregate device, would that still work for DC-coupled stuff? Using an aggregate device can be a little wonky sometimes (or at least I get occasional pops when recording) and it'd be cool to actually get some use out of the 828x's optical ports.

For that you'd use an ES-3.

I'm quite interested in this as well.

I'm looking to get an ES-3/ES-6 combo, since I would be using it with my RME, but this is a so much more attractive form-factor, especially since 4in would probably be enough for my purposes.

I don't know if you would comment on future products, but are there any plans to make an ES-3/ES-6 equivalent, but just housed like an ES-8? (6in/8out, all ADAT)

Never say never, but I think it's fair to say that if the ES-8 can be put in standalone mode with a firmware change, there would be less incentive to make such a combined ES-3/6 product.

That makes sense.

So 'standalone' in this case would mean like anti-standalone? (where it would then need an actual soundcard to connect the ADAT stuff to)

Standalone in the sense that it would have no USB connection to the computer. In the same sense that e.g. the MOTU 828 can be used standalone as an ADAT/analogue converter.

Ah yes, I understand the usage of the term now.

Well fingers crossed for that firmware update then, as that would make it the perfect little interface!

Os, when do you expect the ES-8 to be in stores in the states?

No. If you want more ins & outs, add an ES-3 and/or and ES-6.

PS you can of course just plug two of them into your computer with two USB cables.

Excited to get hold of one of these. Beyond being a USB interface, the idea of it supporting more functionality in the future in a manner similar to Disting is very cool.

This looks great, and good luck with the launch. Do you have a timeline as to when you might add the standalone mode?

What I need:

Since I punched my old MBP and 003 I now need new bits.

I would like an interface that could handle at least 96k@24bit.

I don't need more than (x2) inputs but to make use of my analogue summing mixer would like at least (x8) outputs if not more. I have just the one stereo outboard compressor/enhancer so cannot track more than 2 channels in anyway...

Aside from the disting, I've never really checked for ES but someone put me onto the ES8 in my general gear thread.

If I understand this new box:
it converses via USB2?

12in/16out...How many are analogue? They're not balanced?

Isn't ADAT chocked at 48k?
...but Cynthia, my Daddy never had a heath kit..

What's the bit depth for the ADC and the DAC?
