Mutable Instruments Frames resolution

Post by denoise » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:42 pm

Hi,

Being Frames a digital module I expect to have a limited "resolution" in terms of values between frames. In that case I suppose that if the distance between frames is very small you should expect less interpolation points as when you have two frames at each spectrum of the knob. It's that true?

Do you have ever heard this theoretical digital aliasing?

what about audio rate modulation of the frame cv input? is this possible?
I doubt I would ever use VCOs as a modulation source, but that is something that could give me an idea of the DSP of the module.

thanks

I believe there might be some kind of smoothing going on?
I've never heard any stepping between frames. :hmm:

Keep in mind that Frames uses analog VCAs, it is just their amplitude that is modulated by a digital source. The specs pages notes that you can modulate up to 15KkHz: http://mutable-instruments.net/modules/ ... ifications

The ADC that reads the CV input has a resolution of 4096 steps. However, the values read by the ADC are processed by a digital lowpass filter, which means that the module will not abruptly step when the CV jumps from one ADC code to the other.

Been on the fence about Frames for a while. Still haven't purchased.... mostly I realized that my hesitation is with that huge knob. It's so huge. Would be the largest knob on my set up BY FAR. Its just so big.

I initially felt that way about Warps. As it turns out, I actually like it!
