Just finalized my first Eurorack this week. I'm happy to share some images of the result together with the power components used and the inital 3D design drafts.

Hi, curious about the SMPSU modules...
Do you ever get problems at power-up where only one power supply starts?

I have a rack with two SMPSUs and have had to fit a power-up delay relay to let both PSUs start up before allowing the supply through to the rack.

This is Sketchy Labs as of earlier tonight. Perhaps it's time to clean up the ol' workbench, eh? At least my latest project seems to work more or less as intended (the 8-PCB monstrosity on the wooden board).

I am resolved to clean up this shit-show tomorrow.

It's been a while, but anyway - don't forget to document your build in this thread 8-) :D !
... why buy it for $100 when you can build it yourself for $150?

Verrry nice!

On a related note, it is a good thing I browsed this thread and came across a remark on using two separate SMPSses for the rails (looking to do the same). Will need a startup delay myself it seems, do people have suggestions on what to use, a simple delay and relay affair, or something which checks the output on the two PSU's and switches on when they are within spec?

I posted this on FB and was asked for details, so here they are: this is a rolling shutter cabinet on wheels that I converted to have lots of shallow drawers to hopefully hold all my DIY parts (and if not, I have another one to convert if needed).

the drawers are 90mm or 70mm high and hold 45mm or 62mm Allit "EuroPlus" (haha) sorting boxes. luckily the inner size of the cabinet was almost ideally aligned with the grid of these boxes, so one drawer fits 13x6 "red" ones which are the smallest unit. there are 5 sizes in total, from 1x1 to 4x2 sized boxes. (more details in the PDF linked here: http://www.allit.de/de/geschaeftsfelder ... /europlus/) - total capacity of the cabinet is 8x13x6=624 "hp"

(also available in the US from http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.a ... 26%2C68736)

drawers are made from 12mm plywood and held by 350mm "full extension" drawer slides, faces are 6mm plywood with a cutout to pull them out. there is a 20cm large drawer on top for "misc" stuff that does not fit below.

fun fact: these rolling cabinets are surplus from a regional HP office near Frankfurt where they at some time in the 90's decided to get rid of fixed office assignments and instead provided these for people to keep their "stuff" in and roam the open plains for a free desk - I think it didn't even last two years and these eventually piled up by the loading docks as scrap...good for me

You and I may butt heads on given issues now and then, but we most certainly share tastes in aesthetics, without any doubt.

Member *Midiot ... Why does the "Osc Bank" part have it's grain going vertical, opposed to the rest of the panel having horizontal grain? What went on with that?

Designed that way. It's also a lighter colored wood. To separate the Osc bank, visually.

Dig it. I'm doing precisely the same thing using metal ... a very purposeful use of black panels and wet sanded/clear coated panels, forming a purposely designed geometric shape which also sets the VCO banks apart from the VCF bank apart from the Ring Modulators bank, (and so on).

So yea, I git it.

I'm seeing and awful lot of recognizable components in those pictures. The mug being one of those really old super precision resistors was a nice touch. Mercury wetted relays ahoy! Greyhill rotary switches with aluminum Alco knobs, very nice! I'm trying to snag as many of those knobs as I can to make a complete synth out of them.

Really, I could be here all day. I'm really familiar with surplus electronics, especially HSC in Santa Clara, CA. Where do you shop?
