I rock this little snack and have nothing but love for Benjolin.

Lowering the resistor R36 in the filter section in this schematic from 150k to 30k will do the trick. It is the resistor right after the opamp that takes the input of the filter (not the external input). The easiest way is to solder a 39k resistor in parallel.maaaks wrote:Ooh I'd be interested in this too. I've got this one: http://www.epochmodular.net/benjolin.html are mods possible?pieter wrote:Which Benjolin do you have? I know there are some fairly straightforward fixes that bring up the output levels (nothing more complicated than replacing resistors, I believe).
I don't have the Epoch version, but I'd imagine the circuit is largely identical.
Thank you! I'm totally trying this. I'll report backpieter wrote:Lowering the resistor R36 in the filter section in this schematic from 150k to 30k will do the trick. Ok this is the weirdest sh#t I've ever made
Benjolin is great fun indeed, what a world of sound. This is just benjolin and magneto and a bunch of lfo's

Now that it's two months later what are your thoughts on the mod?maaaks wrote:It works! I found 30k was still noticeably quieter than the triangle outs so I dropped it down to ~20k by using a 22k in parallel (hopefully, it won't go up in flames)
Is there someone here in the U.S. that can perform this mod for me?
No problems at all. You can do it yourself! It is really the easiest mod possiblejwise wrote:ymaaaks wrote:It works! I found 30k was still noticeably quieter than the triangle outs so I dropped it down to ~20k by using a 22k in parallel (hopefully, it won't go up in flames)

I believe the original was created to be a standalone instrument so Eurorack levels would have been to hot. I'll be building one of these at Synthplex in a few days so will see if this module hack will also work. I however was more interested in how to add an audio input to the filter so I can put additional sound sources through the filter. I also want to figure out a way to have the oscillators track 1V/octave for more than one octave. Those two functions would make the Benjolin incredibly versatile.
Just wanted to quote this for being a hero as it totally worked.maaaks wrote:![]()

The PWM clean out is still much louder!

I read about that mod a few times while building my latest benjolin, and some research led to a quote from Rob Hordjik about it - paraphrasing, he said that increasing the level of signal into the filter like this leads to a lot more distortion of the signal, and causes the filter to work differently than he intended. So I didn't implement this mod, but it certainly might have it's uses, depending on what you want to achieve. Adding a switch to turn it on and off would be trivially easy, if you can find room for one.
Speaking of which, here it is...

Hordjik Benjolin modules being made right now?
I’ve been drooling over every video I see using the Benjolin and it seems like Epoch’s was a good one to get but they aren’t making them right now... does anyone know of another company making them at the moment? Or does anyone know of someone selling one? Thanks for any input here
