Oh no!
83 cent is for 10! I accidently ordered 50 chips. Now I have 47 left. Shall I build 15 Euclidean Circles more? If anyone of you needs a chip I would send it to you for the shipping costs, but I think it is more expensive send a letter with three chips through europe, then ordering fifty chips from china ... :hmm:
Hmm I'm in the same boat what to do with a bunch of extra chips and leds I wonder.

Does anyone know the value of C1 and SJ1 on the bottom board?

Working with a rev 1.9a board there seems to be many missing components. I think i followed everything correctly but when I power it up nothing happens. Seems like there is a short on the 5v rail, where should i probe to find the short?

Found the problem I think I used a AP7361C LDO voltage regulator with ground on pin2. The one called for has ground on pin1. blerg.

Should my encoders be lighting up without a clock? I’ve only soldered a few of the leds so far but they seem to be working, but the encoders aren’t doing anything. Anywhere in particular I should check for issues? I’ve given the board a once over but everything looks fine.

The 2811s ICs control the encoders, double check they are soldered up correctly

ignore parts not explicitly mentioned in the BOM

the encoders are at the end of the LED chain, so unless you have all the LEDs working they wont light up. for a quick test you can remove the panel and bridge the top two rows of the 8 pin header, this will send the signal straight to the WS2811 chips (dont bridge the bottom rows as that connected 5V to GND)

octopart

The mouser cart is not a complete BOM and a whole bunch of SMD passive components have been out of stock lately.. so I brought the 1.9 list over to Octopart. av500, I would recommend that you copy it, check my work, and provide a link to your own.

sigh, yes, keeping a Mouser cart current is a full time job. will redo it next week.

your list looks good, but remove the last item, the 2x4 male SMT header comes with the PCB set.

Low output voltage

Post by ebardie » Tue Jun 12, 2018 2:50 pm

I'm only getting about 0.5v outputs. Should be ten times higher. Any ideas where to look? Output signal isn't terribly clean looking either.

do you have 5V at the 5V test pad?
