Lil Sidrassi - Alternative for 2N3819

Is here anyone who would be aware what the 2N3819 transistor does in the Lil Sidrassi paper circuit, and if it can be replaced with something else?

I read here this is replacement: MMBF5484 (512-MMBF5484 as SMD at Mouser).

I just looked at Mouser: You can order the 2n3819, but minimum order is 5000.
