Euro: Faux Shift Register

Post by wiggies » Sat Oct 19, 2019 4:58 pm

Something I've been playing with lately: using two Ornament & Crime modules to create a shift register simulation.

O&C #1 runs the Quadraturia app, with the four LFOs set out of phase in quadrature mode. These outputs are fed into the second O&C in the Quantermain app. Select your favorite scale, give it some triggers, and the quantized voltages feed four voices. Because the LFOs are out of phase, it sounds very much like an analog shift register.

The nice thing about this is it's easy to create variation in the outputs, by feeding CV into Quadraturia to change the wave shape, or modulating various other parameters in the app. A slow LFO into wave shape gives slow subtle changes. A slow stepped voltage from a sequencer makes more abrupt changes. And O&C gives good control over the amplitude and offset on those LFOs, so you can dial in the range you want to play in.

Love it! Great idea - I've got 2 o_C's, will give this a spin!
