sequence technique without sequencer (Serge 73-75 idea)

Post by papa » Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:23 am

I have been obsessed with this for some time now. I do believe that is time for me to write and share this silly patch.

The basic Idea was to make a sequence with the homekit of 73-75 panels. But if we understand the idea of blocks been used, I presume one can use it for other stuff also. So how to do it and what to use:

In those panels what I use is three envelopes (rise, fall) three comparators one triple voltage processor. The idea is to produce as much as your comparators volts to process through VP and make them appropriate notes.

Cycle the EG's and patch the cv out to either + or - of on comparators. Then take the pulse out of comparator to in of a dc mixer( voltage processor) and scale down the 5V to any short of volt you like. With some work there you can have proper notes or intervals. Patch the out of mixer to CV input of an oscillator. You will have a sequence....! Please find below a small idea of the parching.

*This fist one is with self cycled EG's
*The second one is with external pulse cycling equally all EG's
*An the last one is one of my favorite as all are external but the second and last work on period dependence of first one et cetera.

Kindly I ask you to extract the idea and work it on different formats, on different modules.
Please let me know your results.

The rule is 2/1 (2 cv per 1 audio) spread the word!

Nice patch technique! I'm not having much luck with it today trying with 4 unsynchronized gates-- had a few moments of magic but I don't think it's going to loop back around! :hihi:

I’m waiting for delivery of the kits for these panels, and then I’ll need some time to build them...
But I’ll try these patches, definitely. I’m fascinated by this very different style of synthesis (Serge vs Moog).

But, my first question - how were these patch images created?

The self cycled patch is the most arbitrary. if you want to have loop-like try the other two. A tip is that you can do the same with just the pulse out of the EG's and then shorten the pulse from the window control. One can do crazy stuff with it if realize that the VP is basically the final scale designation. you can also mix comparators up to take some logic sequence.

On below patch you can take two values one inverted to the other in logic manner.

Thanks for sharing the patch, papa. I'm in the middle of a 73-75 build. Now I have a patch to try when I'm done.

Do your EG's run at independent rates? If so, I suppose you should get some kind of incessant permutations of the sequence.

I did something similar in eurorack with G8 set up to take a clock input and step through its 8 outputs. At each step one output sends a gate out. Send all outputs to an 8 channel cv mixer and there's your sequencer. Since I don't have an 8 channel mixer I had to use a few other modules and finally combine the signals in a three channel mixer.
