Ciat-Lonbarde Knob Upgrade?

Post by eyeiaye » Mon Jan 06, 2020 8:33 pm

Loving the Ciat-Lonbarde stuff. But is there a decent knob upgrade? The stock ones are a bit bland for my taste. Would be amazing to have something metal, so it could be as elemental as it sounds!

Find out the shaft type by pulling a knob off, measure the outer diameter and then get to searching for something you would like.

Current favorite knob sources:

If you want metal I've been really digging these lately, great feel and finish plus I think they would look really great with the wooden aesthetic.

I don’t know for sure, but those knobs look like the ones Hexinverter uses. If that’s the case, then they’re D-shaft knobs- but with the pointer aimed in the opposite direction of most other D-shaft knobs.

I’ll check into it and post again when I know more..

Yep, same as Hexinverter knobs- just gray instead of black.

I believe that makes them a ‘Reverse D-shaft’. They’re the opposite of WMD knobs, anyway. WMD is also borderline too short and fits quite loose on this Coco.

Intellijel-style is a bit taller, fits nice, and you can make the pointer aim any way you please. The one in this pic is a ‘Black Small Skirt D - Sifam Plastic Knob’ from here:

Oh damn! Thanks for linking. Totally forgot about Love My switches, great stuff and even better service.

Also to add for OP, I haven't had any issues mounting 1/4" shaft pots with set screws on d shaft knobs, just cut a little piece of stiff card stock or hard poster board to fill the gap and you're good to go. Did it on older NLC projects where due to pot orientation D shafts are upside down and it worked really well.

The knobs are recessed into the wood so deeply that tightening set screws would likely be impossible.

I suppose one could try to take the wood off, but I’ve never done that to CL stuff. Sounds like a task that’d be worth avoiding..

Hmm, definitely looks like a hassle. From the last time I fiddled with a cocoquantus I thought there was a little more wiggle room, but I guess not.

Maybe these would work. A bit less diameter( 12.7 vs 14.2) than the Thonk ones linked and it says it has 2 set screws. Wonder how high up the second one is?
