Yes - Close to the Edge and Drama. Incredible work from two lineups firing on all cylinders from start to finish.

The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World. Like what you'd get if space aliens who'd read about music but never heard any tried to be the 1964 Beatles.
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/SH-09/MT-32/D-50, Yamaha DX7/V50/TX7/TG33/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini/ARP Odyssey/DW-8000, Ensoniq SQ-80

Van der Graaf Generator - more or less everything they did, but at least Pawn hearts and Still life
King Crimson - at least In the court of the KC, Lizard, LTIA and Red
Frank Zappa - as much as you can, including Overnite Sensation, Apostrophe, Absolutely free, Sheik Yerbouti, and so many more
... why buy it for $100 when you can build it yourself for $150?

Steve Tibbetts, Yr: The finest album of guitar-based music I've ever heard, this album hangs-together like an exquisite single composition, with Tibbetts' virtuoso playing on electric and acoustic guitars always at its center. Unclassifiable in genre, this album weaves a different spell every time I listen to it. (BTW, Tibbetts recorded this in his basement on semi-pro 8-track analog equipment in 1979.)

Cream, Live Cream (Vol. 1.): At its heart, Cream operated as a jazz band playing pop songs, and they were the first rock band to walk the tightrope of collective improvisation during their live performances. When they succeeded in making it all the way across the wire (as they did on this album’s highlight, "Sweet Wine") they far outshined all of their contemporaries in rock (Dead fans take note) and even most of their contemporaries in jazz for musical inventiveness, precision and sheer power.

Mothers of Invention, Absolutely Free: Frank Zappa brilliantly and inventively blends "Louie, Louie" covers, jazz improvs and Igor Stravinsky themes with biting social and political commentary in this sophomore release. Contains the peerless "Brown Shoes Don’t Make It", Zappa’s first (and IMO, greatest) masterpiece — actually a complete opera condensed into just 7-1/2 minutes.

Thanks for the suggestions gang.
To answer the question of what I usually listen to,
Zappa
Ween
Aphex Twin
MF Doom
Pink Floyd (I've transcended the universe while watching Live At Pompeii)
Tom Waits
Swans
Dilla
Madlib
Detroit, Berlin,dub(?) techno
Jazz (bebop stuff, as well as Lounge Lizard madness)

Every now and then I come across something and cant believe I'd never heard it before, and a lot of top album lost are filled with so.e weird pop choices which makes me question the rest of the list. Figured you people might have some eclectic taste.

Seconded. Like the soundtrack to some lost, epic French sci-fi movie from the 1970s, that never got made in the end.

The Mousegarden thread Four records that changed your life. is good. Important stuff gets mentioned several times.

This heat - This heat (first album)

You should make a rule - if you start listening to an album you must listen to all of it.
(that will add a frisson of danger - you might commit to hear something you find you hate!)

Sad how the album format is nearly dead for a couple generations now...

I’ve been meaning to buy This Heat’s This Heat...still not available on streaming services which in a way is maybe a good thing.
