No notification for me. I imagine the wait is going to be longer than I though. Thanks for posting that video too.

I received this email from Erica today

We are happy to inform that despite delayed component supplies due to the global pandemic and its related lockdowns, today we have completed SMT assembly of all SYNTRX production units and the first production run unit is fully assembled. Now we start calibration and final testing. We plan to ship the first SYNTRX units to customers in the end of next week.

We once again apologise for the postponements - but we can finally say in confidence that all setbacks are now solved. We greatly appreciate your patience.

I'm so conflicted on this synth. I LOVE the interface and the look of it; the digital patch matrix is awesome; im just not sure how useable it would be for my uses. I'll wait for some more sound samples

I feel the same way. As a previous owner of a VCS3 and a couple of AKSs, the design appeals in many ways. But it still has the same limitations of the Synthi's too, mainly the reversed topology of level controls on the outputs and not on the inputs of modules. They emulate the different pins of the Synthi, more so, in that there are three levels instead of just two in the Synthi, but the same problems arise, like when you want to use one CV to modulate two destinations differently. You only have a few choices of difference (more than you had with the Synthi though. The matrix being buffered helps a whole lot to alleviate one of the biggest faults of the Synthi, always having to rescale the CV output of the keyboard whenever you added a modulation. Sometimes you could not scale it enough. The External CV in will help that a lot. I wish they found a way to bring them in on a line of their own, or a switchable one. Maybe the Joystick lines like the sequencer used to do on the AKS. The meter on the Synthi had it's own output jack that also inverted the signal so you could patch in/out and use it as an inverter. They could have done something with that too. I assume that the Ring modulator is AC coupled like the Synthi was, so it is not useful as a second VCA but the one on the Synthi did do some neat percussive effects exploiting its AC coupled nature.

Oh, and the Synthi had much better shaped waveforms to if the reviewers scope is calibrated. Sawa were saws and squares were much closer to squares that those pictured are. It may be because this is a prototype though.

I think the draw for me is the package. The Synthi for me was more of a sound effects machine since making traditional music with it was a pain for many reasons. This machine looks like it is capable of doing the mono-synth role quite nicely. I still which they had a way of turning the matrix into a Tenori-on sequencer mode. THAT would really make it a killer.

Not the exact sound you're referring to, but FSOL wades into similar waters with the Synthi-inspired Digitana synth.

And Maciek Polak's Synthi work might be of interest.

I also have lusted after a synthi since I started in modular, I really like everything about it but in hainbach's review, that filter just sound incredibly generic...

On the loopop review everything seemed kind of basic on their own but I think when all the things start interacting with each other Is when it should start sounding a little better. At least thats what I am hoping anyway

That is one reason I started building up a Synthi clone using Analogue Systems modules. They licensed the EMS filter (both generations of the Synthi A/VCS3 filters) and the Trapezoid VCA/EG combo. Their VCOs have better looking waveforms than the earlier review above shows (that may be because of that unit being a prototype) and can do .5V/oct response which is close to the .32v/oct of the Synthi (faster sweeps). It doesn't have the ergonomics of the patch matrix, you still need to use patch cords, and you would have to make a custom skiff to have a similar form factor (making a VCS3 form factor would be easier), but I bet the sound would be closer. I'm most the way there and soon will be ordering the rest of what I need. I wanted to go all the way with a RS-450 CV recorder but it is almost as expensive as all the rest of the modules.

Hopefully the waveforms look funny because that is the demo model and hasn’t been calibrated yet... my hopefully list keeps getting longer

Donato Dozzy and Anthony Linell are both noted Synthi AKS users. The Synthex would be highly usable for you.
