I'm gonna go with the 2hp. It seems to have the best classic analog hat sounds, plenty of new sounds, and enough modulation.
Ya know you might’ve just changed my mind. The Mutants are nice but so big. 2hp would allow me another module or two. Think I’ll go this route too.

i'm a simple b*tch, i love the tiptop 909s. can be fm/amed, has an accent, closed/open hats and the envelope can be off for constant noise output
Same here. I love the TT HATS 909. It can super metallic and industrial. Way beyond 909 territory.

So I ended up getting all of the Prok modules, a 2hp hat, and a BAI.

I think I made the right decision :yay:

I also have the 2HP hats. They sound fantastic but I agree with earlier comments that the sweet spot seems quite limited to me. After a certain point they start to sound a bit off to my ear. Perhaps I need to experiment more with quicker modulation to those points.

Hats off to TipTop Hats909 + CYML909.
Played with weird envelopes, keytracking, & mod, their combined musical vocabulary is finely-graded and vast. What I hear from them aren't just "sounds" but musically articulate elocutions.

I really love having a wide variety of hats to mix and match between. That's why I send 4 channels of triggers to an A-182-2 quad switch that goes to a Mutant Hihats, a Patching Panda Hatz, an MFB Drum-03, and an MFB OH/HH/CY 522. Also gotta keep the Quantum Rainbow close by to replace a stale noise sources that isn't cutting it at any particular moment.

I thought I could replace Mutant HH with the 2HP one. I was very wrong.

Plaits, Akemie’s Taiko, and Quantum Rainbow are working well for creating a wide range of hat sounds.

Befaco’s percall looks like a hi hat generation machine…

I like the Mutant HH. On the large side, but fairly feature rich. Being able to feed it external sound is a big plus.

nobody's mentioned the wonderful feature on the mutant hats and thats the control over the exclusivity [choke] - it has a hard exclusivity, a soft one 'fade', and no exclusivity - when paired with the cv control over decay on the OH it can be used to fantastic effect - saved me needing a third gate in my mixing case!

Guys I need some help with hats modules. I have a TTA 909 hats and I like some aspects of it, I love the CV in AM function, its killer for adding drive and I use it in a techno liveset rig so its massive for that. The issue I have is that really only moves the sound in a groovy way when the tune is turned down lower and the hats loose their high fizz. I prefer hats to be a bit higher and more fizzy rather than the TTA 909 when they are low enough to be CVed really nicely. I'm looking for these sorts of hats: but with a way to CV them to get them to move and groove, ideally with the possibility to tweak them harder as required. Any suggestions?

if you want an ultra specific sound maybe a sampler will be the best option?

I had 2hp hats for the longest time and recently switched to mutant. However I’ve always been curious about the Patching Panda hatz. Only thing is all the demos I’ve seen people are just going crazy with the knobs, especially the filters. I just want to know how they sound making traditional hats. Can any PP Hatz users chime in?

The thing about these threads is they usually lack a lot of context. If you are listing your favorite module that does X, but you don't list other modules you have used that you picked it over and why, it does not really help.

I have used the following modules for hats:
2 HP Hats
WMD Crucible
An amplifying module to get an external drum machine/sampler/computer up to modular levels
Noise Engineering BIA
Schlappi Engineering Interstellar Radio and/or other various noise sources through an enveloped vca, sometimes with a few band pass filters early in the chain

Out of everything I have used, the best has been amping up an external source. To put it another way, the king of hats does not yet exist. I would love for WMD or SSF to come out with a dedicated hats module. If I had to name my favorite hats source within eurorack, it would be a tie between BIA and rolling your own. I would agree with others in this thread about the 2hp hats, it has it's sweet spots and then a lot of stuff I don't care for inbetween, but it's hard to argue with the price and hp versus a lot of the other options.
