Broken USB connector (Teensy) on a 16n Fader Bank

Post by autodafe » Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:39 pm

Tonight while pluggin it in, the USB connector on the Teensy came off...
The Teensy is directly soldered to the board, since there was not enough space for sockets..
How can I try to repair it? I know there are USB pads on the bottm of the Teensy, what about on top? maybe a bigger USB connector and some wires could do the job...but where can I connect to?

Well, I have fixed it.

I stripped a standars USB Cable
There was just enough space to "see" the D+ and D- pads on the bottom of the board and soldered the white and green cables.
then it was just a matter of soldering the red wire to Vin and black to GND, which are the first 2 pins on the board, opposite one each other.
Then wrapped the USB Cable arounf the Teensy and blocked it in place with the top panel. It should not move anymore (I hope)

If you don't need to reprogram the Teensy, the power and ground pins should be all you need, so don't sweat it if your wire comes disconnected from the data pads.

Yes, correct. But I won't be able to connect it to my Mac and use it as MIDI-USB controller or reconfigure it, update firmware and so on.
Only Eurorack use ;-)
