Some Good Samaritan on Reverb has taken it upon himself to sell Tom’s travel jig design for $125 + shipping.

Nothing wrong with charging for laser cutting services but... that price seems steep for selling a laser cut of a free template. (Just a guess but) likely without consulting Tom for permission to do so...?

I'm not entirely against it in a small scale way (don't think there's scope in my sphere to be larger scale ), though obviously aware how some larger open projects of others have been treated. The reasons I put them out were so I wouldn't have to oversee the work, figure shipping of awkward shapes and to keep prices low. For example, I think I paid c.£20 for such a set from the laser shop down the road - I certainly see that as a very reasonable cost & have taken quite a few designs down to that shop.

The price for someone else to undertake making such things is hard for me to quantify. In some ways I see it as an advert saying that the reverb seller can offer a service making these for people who can't DIY (/find a shop) & charges accordingly for such a service - it is for anyone interested to decide whether what is being charged is reasonable.

yea - i mentioned this to tom a few days back when i noticed it. i think i am going to try to go the local route with a laser cutter here in my city, but yea an interesting question in general about open sourcing things like this.

Way back in the day, when I had too much time on my hands and a tendency to smoke ganja - a friend and I built our own racing “cockpit” for a couple of racing video games we enjoyed on the original PS. We had an aftermarket steering wheel and throttle controller, the screen positioned above that, homemade gaming chair Made from a Camaro seat with speakers mounted behind and above a bit, “a roll-cage” to give that extra real feeling...

I am looking to build an experience like that but for Bugbrand. Immersive, an escape. My millennium falcon cockpit. 2 x 4 does make better sense, Tom.

Who knows, I might just do a 5 row and a 2 or 3 designed to pair with a Pulsar-23 or something for a mobile station. I am just beginning to think about this.

When going for 11FW... don’t rule out the standard studio racks! I used the 12U racks from Onstage Stands which go for $36. I hadn’t considered these at first, but found them to be an equally good solution in terms of function/aesthetic/space.

This was also motivated by the need for a case - I ended up getting two SKB 6U shallow rack roto cases, which can hold 12U each when using front/back, and leave space in between to pack banana cables and power supplies (in plastic bins so they’re not just rattling around). It’s not the fastest/most portable setup - mainly oriented for protection and space saving. I chose this over a 12U pop up mixer case, which seemed great in theory, but was way too big and pops up to a less than optimal angle, so not practical in reality for me.
