Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
Have been looking for a new filter to sit with my Matriarch (already with an amazing stereo filter), now this has been added to the consideration list... Had been quite decided with QPas till now. Hmm...

Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
It’s likely the input signal is sent through all states equally, what you do with the knob is crossfade between their outputs rather than affecting what’s hitting each filter type.
Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
But wouldn't that mean it does serial and parallel simultaneously, under the hood? Which would require two instances of the B filter... (only filtering the original input when parallel, only filtering A output when in series...)MossGarden wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 4:33 pmIt’s likely the input signal is sent through all states equally, what you do with the knob is crossfade between their outputs rather than affecting what’s hitting each filter type.
Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
This makes me wonder if the inputs are normaled to one another. The mixer output from the Matriarch is mono, so I wonder if you can patch in to the left input and then get two different filtered outputs.
Mine will be here tomorrow, so I will hopefully be able to report back!
Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
That's true actually. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts of Blades as a companion to Matriarch!ima_jrk wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 4:53 pmThis makes me wonder if the inputs are normaled to one another. Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
Funny - there was a thread on here a few days ago about emulating a Sherman Filterbank with Euro modules. The design of this is pretty similar to a Sherman in a number of respects.
Doubt it sounds anything like one though, MI modules do tend to be rather 'polite'.

What about a dual Blades in 20 hp crowded with ‘normal’ knobs?Quiet Wilds wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 5:19 pmHas anybody made a 4HP version with tiny knobs you have to use needle nose pliers to turn yet

Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
There are a lot more controls on there than just cutoff.deftinwulf wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 7:23 amThis is actually a very interesting point. Linked controls do make stereo a different beast than "dual mono". Genuinely not trying to "gotcha!" here, as I only just watched the DivKid demo video, but it would appear that the "Shift" button on Blades actually does link the filter cutoff into stereo operation with offset control, which is pretty cool. So I guess Blades is kinda stereo when it wants to be?Stab Frenzy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 6:33 pmDual mono isn’t stereo. The signals are compatible but the way the device operates is different between dual mono devices and stereo devices. Dual mono gives you two completely seperate sets of controls that need to be matched by hand to get the same results, for example it’s very hard to dynamically manipulate the two sets of controls on a dual mono device to keep the stereo image if you’re running a stereo signal through.
Stereo devices let you treat a stereo signal as a single entity, and more advanced ones let you manipulate the stereo image within them. The key to understanding the difference between stereo and dual mono is understanding a stereo signal is one signal travelling down two cables.![]()

Yeah, really....and it's going to have some stupid-ass name like "Cutzz" or somethingQuiet Wilds wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 5:19 pmHas anybody made a 4HP version with tiny knobs you have to use needle nose pliers to turn yet

Seeing the conceptual leap from Clouds to Typhoon, it will probably be something like Machetes.

My money is on “Shivs” or “Shanks”. I mean, we’re talking about derivative, sub-standard tools that are a pain in the ass to use but good enough to get the job done, right?Buyakasoundman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:21 pmNah, the 12hp version is ‘Stiletto”, and the 8 hp is “Ice Pick”atrostor wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 7:38 pmSeeing the conceptual leap from Clouds to Typhoon, it will probably be something like Machetes.

Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
Same opinion here. I really want to like it, because of the morphable filter type. Many sounds on the video are great, but the basic sound...
Waiting for more examples.
Re: Mutable Instruments Blades
It’s arrived. Ambivalent enough about it to not get have opened it, but fucj if there’s an MI toy inside and i’ve just sequenced a progression of the Beverley Hills Cop theme tune, and if that isn’t a calling to crack open a new filter and bugger about idk what is.
Edit: genuine case of half arsed buyers remorse for the first time. Yet to crack it. Contemplating a return. Every time I watch the divkid demo I think HELL YES every time I look at the box I think “hmmm.” It spurred me into ordering a Xaoc Batumi and Kamienic from my “want” list, the genuine excitement of which has left the Blades “frankly tepid but it ticks some definite boxes curiosity” paling a bit in comparison.

All you people riffing on the micro names are missing the detail of the icon on the panel - which is a circular saw blade rather than a knife.
So the micro version will be called Buzz.

What have I done?
I woke up this morning to an email from Control Voltage confirming my order of Blades.
Never ordered from Control, and I thought they were in NY city.
Now, where the frick am I going to put it.

Phenomenal unit. Love it to bits. The double Borg may be relegated to LPG duties more often!
