I get the impression from the Wiard site that the 300 series is almost certainly coming to an end once parts are exhausted. Production of the 300 series has been intermittent in the last few years. They are apparently incredibly time consuming and difficult to build and QT etc... Hence the long waiting lists for those that get on it.

Yeah, probably the Euro will continue... or perhaps he's so frustrated
with the WO and Envelator issues (I don't mind) that's he's scraping
the format completely.

Whatever he does, I think it'll be +15V, star distribution. Maybe
even a dedicated power supply, distribution that he controls and
manufactures. Like Serge + Buchla.

I don't know him, but I can tell by reading that he's a perfectionist.
And he's into his creations functioning as intended, less motivated by
cash, more motivated by creating his perfect instrument.

So now that I think about it, I could see him dropping Euro and
adopting something like Bugbrand/Frac. More affordable but still meeting
his standards.

At the same time, there's hasn't been a new Wiard euro module in
awhile. I love my Wiard/Malekko modules. A lot. So, no disrespect
intended to that partnership. This is pure speculation.

It will be exciting to see what the new product line is. Pretty sure it won't be frac though.

i think this is probably pretty close to the mark. i doubt euro would be abandoned but i could definitely see a new power infrastructure and the re-release of all previous wiard designs in that format. maybe similar in size to the 300 series. it would be pretty hard to deny something like that. it's awesome to see new activity from Wiard that's for sure.

Yeah the site is pretty clear about that. I've heard rumours of "few 300 series parts left" and it seems like they will use up the "VERY LIMITED" components left and that will be the end of 300 series. Then from what I understand there will be something new.

With that said I have a 300 series dual Mixo for sale (yeah sorry to spam this thread) which I foolishly bought last week the day before my basement flooded. Probably one of the last 300 series available so hit me up if interersted....

It's a shame really. The 300 series modules are quite simply incredible in design, what I really love about them is the functional density. I personally hate large modular systems but with the Wiard you can do so much with relatively few modules. The classic VCO for example is a ridiculous module. Not only is it an incredible analogue VCO with more than comprehensive range, modulation and syncing abilities it also has a VCA, mixer, envelope generator, envelope follower, lag processor and god knows what else on it.

I think I might be leaning the Wiard way.

So many cool unreleased designs. So curious.
Hope to see the walkabout module.

Does this mean that Malekko and Wiard are parting ways?

Or a new format completely?

Easel?

while i really hope the collaboration with malekko isn't coming to an end (my wiard euro modules are my favorite euros, hands down), i think i'm being drawn ever closer to making the plunge into a 300 system...

and no one try to dissuade me wink

an easel type thing could be something new... If by 'easel' you just mean a single package wiard creation meant to be a patchable but ultimately self-contained synth.

I'd rather buy stand alone units that supplied their own power and stuff while still 'playing nice' with the main modular formats in terms of patching than get into an entire new modular format, but that's just me I guess.

It kinda bugs me that the term Easel is getting taken away from the original instrument and is now starting to apply to any small-to-mid size semi portable modular setup

soon enough if you Google "music easel" all you're gonna find is a bunch of people's Eurorack setups help

Well, its not like buchla is doing anything with the name... Weren't like only 14 music easels ever made? If they weren't made of pure unobtainium you'd probably see the name applied more to the original.

Perhaps the Wiard Electroniums will finally see the light of day? I'd buy a Space Box...

The "14 easels" meme is not true. I'm don't know the actual number but I bet it's in the 50-100 range, at least.

It does seem like the Malekko stuff will come to an end after the upcoming modules Grant has said he will be doing, which I think is a real shame, given that most of the problems that occur with euro format (arguably all) can most likely be fixed.

That said, it will be awesome if Wiard modules continue to come out in a different format that is still affordable. Hard to imagine this happening the same way Josh has been able to do it with the big productions runs (and without the market base of euro users), hopefully these two are still working together. Wouldn't mind having a sensible, precise and clean power supply/distribution either.

Gotta be grateful that you can buy a module like the Envelator for $185 new. Regardless of whether I am using some new format or start robbing people to get a 300 system before they are all gone, a case full of Malekko Wiard is going to be next to it.

Of course all of this is entirely speculative and like everyone else I'm eager to get my hands on more Wiard stuff, so talking about it on the internet is what I resort to (instead of making more music).

That'd be cool. I'd like to see him do that 2nd.

First I'm hoping he'll develop the production version of the
Anti-Envelope.

i dont want to rain on anyones parade, but make sure you contact grant before you start dreaming about buying a whole system. unless he reprints more runs of some of the circuit boards some of the modules(borg and mixolator) are not available.

again, i am not speaking for grant. i am just merely passing on info that some may want to know before they start planning a whole system.

Hi there,

Just for clarification, whatever you may have heard in the past has now changed.

We do plan to make all the modules available again, and the initial focus will indeed be on building a small run of full 300 systems for those interested, and completing existing customers' systems.

We have no plans to build more Frac Rack modules, since these have now been replaced by the Malekko Euro line (which will continue to expand).

I can't give you any definite pricing information for new systems yet or answer specific questions yet, because I'm still sorting that out, but if you are definitely interested in making a purchase and know what you want, feel free to email [email protected] early, and I will get a formal quotation prepared as soon as possible (expect to receive responses from the beginning of next month, since that is when I will be officially taking over management, sales, and customer correspondence, freeing Grant's valuable time for design and engineering).

Best wishes,
Cary
