[s]http://soundcloud.com/kfw/generator-6-generator-2-excerpt[/s]

this is an excerpt from keith fullerton whitman's album "generator", which has been on constantly since i got it a few months ago. it's a really fantastic modular album. i remember hearing his hrvatski records years ago, then seeing that he's the man behind mimaroglu (awesome record store), and now that he's been making some subtle, wonderful, exciting modular music.

just thought i'd share.

infradead

oh nice..

i'm a huge fan of the hrvatski stuff.. first time i've had a chance to hear his modular stuff..

really wicked

thanks!

shamann

Generator is a pretty cool album.

I've really enjoyed what I've heard of the oud and synthesizer record he did, too bad it isn't available for purchase as a download anywhere, I'd love to get it.

He has an excerpt up on his soundcloud of it:

http://soundcloud.com/kfw/variations-for-oud-synthesizer-1-excerpt

(embedding Soundcloud link was doing weird things, so here's just the link)

dr. jacoby

yeah, i was listening to that modular & oud excerpt as well. i'd love to buy a copy as well. kfw and greg davis are doing some of my favorite things with modulars right now.

MrBiggs

Keith is a Wiggler as well. Not very active, but he's around. Bought a couple of A110's from me last year off of the BST. Generator is terrific.

oh yeah? can't say i'm surprised, but that's still cool to hear.

if you're reading this, keith, keep up the great work!

amnesia

I like Keith's work.

There is a really great live video where the camera is right on the table, but I cant find it anymore.

hamburgerlady

This might be the video you're speaking of - http://vimeo.com/18244639

I can't get enough of KFW. He's an inspiration. I only wish I could see his piece for Francois Bayle's Acousmonium in Austria later this year.

Would love to see him back to Australia in the near future.

wwbjd

I've been listening to Generator almost non-stop for a week or so now. I'd love to get my hands on Disingenuity!

Just wanted to resurrect this thread to share my excitement.
KFW has a new record of the Generators material coming out in February on Editions Mego.

Many thanks, Keith. Really looking forward to hearing this one.

sundog

Wonderful news, thanks for sharing. The original Generator cassette/dl is outstanding SlayerBadger! SlayerBadger!

Bambam

Shit, I'll grabbing that next LP quicksmart!

The split he did with Ben Vida out on Required Wreckers is also ace.

If you can find it (i think he still sells a few at Mimaroglu), pick up "Track4 (twowaysuperimposed)". Beautiful 20 min piece designed to be played both directions.

dr. jacoby

holy shit! keith whitman and mego together! that's a must-have.

required wreckers and track 4 (twowaysuperimposed) are both amazing as well! glad my thread got resurrected!

kfw

hey guys ; just (re) found this thread ... just a heads-up that i've (finally) updated my personal site ::

http://www.keithfullertonwhitman.com

... tons of excerpts from the upcoming record(s ; the emego one & the split w/ eli keszler on nna tapes) & the GRM piece (hacked it to "work" in stereo - likely this will be out in some form before the end of the year) & the music from the deepak chopra game (ditto) ...

... have plans to kind of come out of my shell a little bit more this year ; i'll be in europe in february, then april, then july - west coast over the summer, chicago in march - so there's that ... traveling light with just a monorocket mx6, but i've managed to come up with some great, largely improvised music with a stripped-down 12u 90hp that screams over a good "rock club" pa ...

anyways, check out the site & let me know what you think. i'm really not a dick ; i spend way too much time on here (even though i don't post much) ...

keep us posted if/when you play in the LA area!

dk

i'm pretty much on the edge of my seat waiting for that split with eli keszler. that's sort of a dream pairing right there, and the sample on the site is great.

wmgaretjax

definitely would go to a norcal show keith!

just read the feature in this months Wire. really cool stuff all around. all the releases on the horizon sound great... especially curious to see what form the GRM stuff takes.

wselman

Very much enjoying the new music, esp. "Occlusion." thumbs up

I like the tests of the Voight-Kampff. Is that 6 dixies?

I didn’t make the connection until recently, but a few months back I made a largish order from Mimaroglu, and I’ve got another heading to me thru the mail right now. Both transaction have gone well, and the online catalog is well worth a look.

New "Generators" LP now in stock at Mimaroglu:

http://www.mimaroglumusicsales.com/labels/demand.html

Been looking forward to this one for a while! According to Keith:

Quote:
this lp covers the final two performances of the piece over two consecutive evenings ; the opening solo set from the final night of the "high zero" festival in baltimore at the theater project, september 26th, 2010, then the performance during the "for eliane" night of the "propensity of sound" festival dedicated to eliane radigue's work at issue project room, brooklyn, september 27th, 2010. these recordings show the piece in two different iterations, taking two different trajectories entirely. they're considered the definitive versions of the piece.

sensanalog

Count me in on the March show in Chicago. I love his approach to music! From Hrvatski to his KFW stuff, woweeeee!! SlayerBadger! SlayerBadger! SlayerBadger!

i got "bottlegged" in nantes (was pretty damn happy with this set ; probably the longest soundcheck i've ever had in my life - played on an amazing 4.4 quad setup in a squat called "les ateliers de bitches") ::

Awesome set! Great place to play, isn't it? I remember being fed very well there, too (each dinner was themed by color).

Orbless

just dropped the needle on the new Generators LP, thanks for the quick shipping. The creamy white vinyl looks amazing! This with the Robert Turman 2xLP from Spectrum Spools along with a J3RK dual 258 in the mail yesterday have made for a good week thus far.
Guinness ftw!

amnesia

excellent set Keith.

pas

mega nice,

always transcending, beaming, love

meristem

Is there any place online (US) to buy the recent stuff in a lossless format, specifically the new generators, but really any of the more recent kfw? I see much of it on amazon... but I would prefer lossless downloads over cd or lp

edit: that vid is fantastic, i'm really enjoying the recent stuff

I'm really digging this album. Not familiar enough with the Generators series to say if this is "definitive" (but if Keith says it is I'll take his word for it) but it's certainly amazing. Love how, despite what must be an impossibly complex system, he's still able to make music out of it that is emotionally engaging and goes far beyond being merely "interesting". The two sides are worlds apart sonically...for me Side 1 is more like the opening act and Side 2 is the blowaway, but they're both great in their own way. It's only February, but I bet this will make a lot of "Best of 2012" lists.

you really need to check out the 'generator' cassette, http://www.discogs.com/Keith-Fullerton-Whitman-Generator/release/23119 57

superbly heartfelt, got me through some miserable times.

Orbless

The one on Agents of Chaos is great too, 'live generators (1.5)' and the double cassette 'Live Generators' 1.0-1.3, which came with an awesome inkjet(?) on clear mylar wraparound insert.
Looking at the discogs, I think I have every one of these 'generator' releases and they are all amazing, along with the Pan LP, split with Ben Vida, 7" etc. there has some really inspiring work put out by KFW in the past few years.
Guinness ftw!

robotfunk

is this him now?

hey guys ; thanks (as always) for the support !!! here's a short clip of a quad performance i gave in nantes back in february for the cable#5 festival ... there's an lp coming out on editions mego in late may / early june of this set (in its entirety) & one from a week later in amsterdam ; very happy with this music, definitely getting closer & closer to the exact sound i had in mind when i started working with modulars a decade ago ...

Chuck E. Jesus

nice guy, impressive beard...

Just did a quick Twitter interview with Keith http://vicmod.blogspot.com.au/

zanadar

I think to me, more important than his music (which I dearly love), has been his incredible digging and championing of a sort of counter-canon (or maybe just shadow world) of electronic music, through creel pone and his other activities.
This type of effort also strikes me as a paramount part of being an artist.

I know I've learned a great deal about records and sound makers that I would have never found without him.
