Hey I found this on matrix synth. It a great clear video demonstrating the Serge Smooth and Stepped generator. I wish there were more simple serge videos like this one explaining them.

Thank you to whoever made this video!

hexenduction rocks! applause

i love his high quality macro serge youtube videos. super classy. this is the first one of his vids i've seen that feels like a real demonstration. very nice. keep it up, hex! nanners
b3nsf
yeah Hex is the man,

here here!! 8_)
Lyonel
Very informative video thumbs up
HexEnduction
Hey thanks! Glad you dug it. I'm considering doing a few more of these. The DTG would be next on the list and then maybe the VCFQ or WAD...
Guinness ftw!
harolddonnelly
That would be great! Its nice to see the serge panels simplified, cause they're all so dense. Which was the fist M-Class panel you bought?

I would love to see a proper demo of the WAD...

The Creature is a good place to start because it has everything you need to get up and running. Some people start with a Dual OSC or Audio Interface...it just depends where you're headed and what your goals are.

Cool, maybe I'll do that one next instead of the DTG.

I've gleened a lot of info out of the Serge gold book and by putting in endless hours of experimentation but for me videos like this are the best way to learn some fundamentals. Richard Lainhart had a good fundamentals of synthis video using the .com system. He should put something together using the 200e system! And yeah, this Serge video is great. Thanks for posting!
dr.jasoncrest
p.s. I started with the Animal and quickly picked up an M-class Dual Osc/EQ shift and a TKB. I'm still totally drawn into the Animal as a starting point.
confusional
Redacted.

I think there's a willing audience for basic demonstration videos.
You just can't hear (let alone be in the same room as) modules from some of the more boutique makers.
A Serge and Buchla library of instructional videos would be a real plus.

I agree!

Some basic instructional vids for a dullard like me would be wonderful!

Porting to vimeo this weekend.

Yay! As much as I love Vimeo, I won't be able to watch your videos on this old computer anymore! :sadpanda:
b3nsf
true, vimeo rapes old computers like this laptop g4 ...and its skips horribly, the only thing you can do is put another window in front of the video so the audio will play without the skipping! very frustrating
Dego
Great video. Cant wait to have a ssg myself love

Good call on the switch. YouTube has become completely saturated with morons.

Someone needs to develop a content filter to block any posts with excessive spelling errors and teenage IM speak.

For real. I reached my breaking point over there with all the ads, fucked up comments, racist/homophobic/Palin-loving bullshit and bogus compression. Vimeo feels more comfy.
science
You could post a video of kittens playing on YouTube and it would somehow devolve into an argument about terrorism and jesus, with a "ur a fag" comment here and there. It paints a scary picture of the general population.
chrisso
On my system, with my slow net connection (the fastest you can get in my area) YouTube is a pretty smooth performer.
I rarely read the comments.
I tend to browse YouTube for stuff like this. I never go to Vimeo unless led by a forum link.
Vimeo is nice, but I like that some people upload to both Vimeo and YouTube and I can choose which is smoothest.
harolddonnelly
I dont understand how it the SSG can act as a filter? i can't wrap my head around it hahah
zthee
The top section is a slew.

- Input a square wave that goes from 0 to 1V.

With no slew it will go instantly to 1V.
With slew it will rise to 1V with the speed of the rate knob.

It will start to round it off the corners of the square, and it will become a sine like shape (with lower amplitude), and eventually it will go silent. Just like a filter.

Take the output, invert it, mix it with the incoming signal - and voila: You got yourself resonance. Easy.

Ask and ye shall receive. Part 2 will be up later this month...

No outboard effects were used for this video; all audio is direct to camera from the WAD m-odule.

To cut down on complicated patches and confusion, I tried to keep this demo simple and therefore the WAD is being used mainly for audio/cv processing. More advanced applications, traditional delays, ping-pongs, karplus strong effects and more will be covered in a future video.

Thanks for another amazing video Hex!

That really is putting the WAD or the Klangzeit up for the the last hole in my boat.

Can't go wrong there. Either choice will be a winner.

The thing that continues to blow me away with the WAD is the DC delay/mangle/fuckery majik. It's pretty incredible, especially if you couple it with the "normal" signal somewhere else, like the Mix Pro. And I also love the self-oscillation with something added into the B input. Really gnarly sounds, kind of like a filthy tube or an archaic, dying oscillator. The fact that it can track pretty well in self-oscillation makes it one of my favorite sound sources.

Next video will be more meaty and less starchy. Just needed to get some of the basic stuff out of the way before proceeding into wacky land.

Really cool demo
Looking forward to wacky land

Okay, it's downloadable now but I think they only give you a week to download the source. My only request is that you do not re-post it to YouTube. Thanks.

Second part should be ready by next weekendish.

Any requests for the next module demo? DTG or VCFQ or TGO...
igormpc
thx! no repost from me!

my suggestions are TGO & VARAIBLE Q VCF
(creature possibilities? smile

thumbs up
parasitk
I'm a sucker for the VariQ Filter. love

Damn Hex, I can't stop watching that video. Mermott's posted video kicks ass too, I hadn't seen that one. They both answer the question that other videos haven't : What happens when you twist those knobs? nanners
