Doepfer a-114 Dual Ring Mod

Post by newgreyarea » Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:37 pm

OK. I got one. Now what?

I've only really used one with guitar and on the the Arp Odyssey.

What are some cool and effective little tricks to do with it?
Thanks,
-brad

Oh I dunno, have you tried patching some waveforms into it? :hmm:

Send X your main audio signal.
Send Y a LFO
Instant tremolo effect.

Send X an oscillator FMed by a 2nd oscillator
Send Y an output from the FM (slave) oscillator
Instant, um..depends on your FMed oscillator here.

And one I like a lot (because I like sync)
Send X the output from the synced oscillator.
Send Y the output from the master sync oscillator
Similar to the previous patch, but not.

I like how ringmods sound when you send it two sources that have something intertwined about them.

Quick hit percussive sounds sound great ringmodded.

I'm not sure if the doepfer one is AC coupled, but you can use them as simple VCAs as well.

have fun! I love ringmods! :tu:

@dkcg Thanks! I'll give those a go. REally want to use it for metallic percussive bits! Best get to patching!

If you like metallic sounds, check out an HD, FM is awesome for metallic tubes, bells, etc. I get spoiled with my ZO for metallic sounds, but the HD is the same principle.

Send a sine to a wave shaper like the A-137-1. Then ring mod that with another sine. Sync the second osc to the first.

Ring mod two vcos together. Then ring mod the result with a third vco. You can keep adding vcos in this way. Use sines mostly to keep it from just washing out. Send the same pitch cv to all the vcos.
