Author XR2206 VCO chip sourcing
SoundMod
Hi there ! I was looking to find a way to source a lot of these precious obsolete chip, instead of going on ebay and pay 5 to 10$ a chip. I may have found an excellent source where I could source a LOT of them without too much problem. I have ordered some sample of them and now waiting for them. I will test those chip, and if they are real and good will order a lot of them and put it available for sell for your DIY project. Im also investigating for other obsolete chip.

Keep in touch.

I'm interested! The 2206 is a fun chip and has some great functionality. Hope the samples work out!

Jameco is a reputable dealer of all sorts of parts. They still have XR2206 stock and also sell a function generator kit which uses that part.

I have the FG kit, and it definitely came with a working original XR2206.

check the Bridechqmbers - 7USD :http://bridechamber.com/Hard_2_Find_ICs.html

tayda has them: http://www.taydaelectronics.com/ic-integrated-circuits/xr-2206-xr2206c p-xr2206-monolithic-function-generator-ic.html

i got one of them but don't really have any quick means of testing if it's a good specimen or not.

Tayda ones at $3 apiece and their cheap, fast shipping is hard to beat. It was mentioned in another thread that the 2206 from Tayda have a weak output. That may have been a bad batch, but it is no big deal, just increase the gain on your op amp buffers. We all have op amp buffers don't we?

yeah there have been some problems with newer 2206 running on 12v I hear

I did have a problem with XR2206 VCO designed by Thomas Henry using a "modern" chip, but after reading forums I dropped a supply voltage for a chip down to 10V - a case of a simple extra RC - and everything works perfect ever since. Perhaps it makes sense to leave a space for an extra resistor and capacitor on a PCB - you can always use a jumper if it works well from 12V.

be cautious buying into group buys from 1 post wigglers peeps

7USD is way too expensive ! Im trying to source those to make, not only Thomas Henry design, but new design as well. So I need a source where I know that I can get them for a long time !

Just received them ! Will test those sample as soon as I can ! If its good, then will tell you !

As has been stated, you can get them from Tayda for $3.

More to the point, most people will be wary of sending money to you, as you have no history on this forum and you have made no effort to identify yourself.
In the BST section of Muffs, you must have a minimum of 100 posts before you can sell anything. As far as I'm concerned the same rule applies to DIY, at least in principle. Unless of course, you are already well known in the synth community?

Nothing personal, please don't get offended.

Something new where to get propper working XR2206?
Bought 10 from "polida2008" for a good rate and from series F0919. Testet every in my oszillator and no is working. At 12V you get an incredidablay random FM and fast changing AM. Think to build a special modul of them Mr. Green .
Bougth also LM14600, CA3080 in working conditon and low price.

Again how knows a suplier to a reasonable price. In Germany I get it for 6 Euro, because it´s tested.

slightly OT but i have 2 i'd trade

Tayda has them for $3.99. I've purchased 4 from them and they all work perfect.

Bought one from Reichelt some time ago, but haven't tested it yet

The one I bought is presumably from EXAR and works nicely in my Thomas Henry VCO build on +/-12V.

Last year bought 4 from Tayda, from serie F0919, work with described errors. Get money back.
Which series are yours?
sammy123
Matt, what circuit did you use this in?

Let me guess, Thomas Henry MPS? hihi

in that circuit the 2206 is connected between +12/15v and GND, so, the voltage across is is much less than the applications +12 to -12V where the issues are (from what I understand)

EDIT: hmm... I'll take that back. the issue was reported with the thomas henry 2206 vco and that seems to be in a similar potential situation
klangbauer
At the moment I find XR2206CP from batch code F0919.
All 4 from Tayda don´t work in my VCO (Thomas Henry design, 12V to GND).
All 10 pcs form polida2008 don´t work.
If power supply is over 12V it behaves like a rnd generator.
XR form F0918 works perfect.
Anybody expirience with this issue?
I am looking for more than 10pcs.
Anybody knows a source for smd XR2206?
snufkin
I think all the newer XR chips work this way, I believe some just lower the PSU voltage on board to overcome the issue
klangbauer
Ì will test it again. But former test with 10V are not really as good.
I will report.

But where is SounMod and his source?
His picture shows XR2206 batch code F0918. That are the good working parts.
TimoRozendal
I bought mine here, they work fine in Thomas Henry mps. Would you like me to check the datecode when I am home?
klangbauer
Thanks, this part looks good because batch code F0918 is working. I bought a lot in Germany and all are perfect. I can´t understand working with F0919 parts and lower VC to 10V or so. XR2206 should work till 26V!

XR2206 is an excellent part to build a very stable and good tracking VCO with a perfect sinewave. Therefore I like it.
I hope SoundMod give us an answer where he found his suplier.
