Serge Cases?

Post by 3001 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 8:06 am

Hey, anyone know anyone who is making cases that look purty for Serge modules?

I really love the way Serge sounds, but I think they can be ugly as sin.

what are people doing for DIY? I think I saw a good one, was it phisynth that has those sweet metal sides?

Goike has made some custom cases for Serge that look amazing. Lots of stuff out there. I'd scope out the banana porn thread that's sticky'ed.

oops, yes I forgot to reply to your PM, sorry (busy days)

yes I had some aluminium cheeks made, based on the BugBrand bomber cheeks, but modified for 3x or 4x 4U, they look like this :

Very happy with the ergonomics.

I can and you the dwg files if you want (I have the 3 and 4 panel version) but all the dimensions are in mm. Shouldn't be a problem if you convert these with a CAD program though.

Sweet please do! I think I'll get the 3 panel one done, I've got 5 panels that could use a spot. :-)

Would you mind explaining where or how you had the large aluminum side panels made?

I'm using a 12U mixer case for my DIY. I can travel with it patched if I don't stack too high.

Sure, it's a design I made based on Tom Bugs bomber cheeks. He was kind enough to send me his technical file, I adapted it for 4U, then sent the .DWG file it to a local metal workshop. 3 days later, I received my cheeks. Simple as that

Thanks. I think the sleek metal look matches the Serge very well, much better than wooden cabinets and wood end cheeks.

I had mine in a rack case, but wanted them on more of a curve to conserve on cable length, so i cut two pieces of plywood and screwed the rack ears into them, it looks absolutely terrible, but it does the job lol

I built an acrylic case for mine. It really helped the whole thing feel like an instrument with this layout and was truly awesome. I downsized on the Serge though and now it sits in my closet.

These are awesome! I really love the old school 'hockey stick' type ones such as Todd Barton's setup. I hope to build something like that after building a few panels.

I never got around to actually making this, so this is just a computer rendering.

The rear leg holds the PSUs.

I love this design.

I’d be interested in producing a few sets.

With your permission of course.

Also, would it be possible to acquire the complete design?

Maybe we can PM and discuss.

Cheers!

Does anyone have the .dwg files that Phisynth mentions at the top of this thread - for the gorgeous aluminum cheek blocks that were modified from the Bugbrand Bomber cheeks?

I'd love to have 2 sets of the 4 panel cheek blocks made for my upcoming Serge system, but have not been able to get hold of Phisynth. Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nick (Underthebigtree)

Yeah, is anyone making wooden Serge cases lately? Asking for a friend with four panels.

Synthracks.com in the UK do gorgeous Euro cases and are always up for custom work.
If at first you don't succeed read the instruction manual.

not really a "case" but I find these tabletop rack stands as the cheapest solution with relatively good ergonomics. youre limited to three penls per rack. the only other drawback is that the bottom of the lowest boat is very close to the tabletop, so its not easy to get to the bottom knobs if you like having another skiff or boat in front if it (picture closeup shows that a normal height boat obscures some of the knobs. But, they're pretty cheap so....theres that.
