Author [PCB offer] SDSV drum synth voice - DIY - works with SSI2144

Hello,
it's time to make some PCBs! I'm planning a professional batch (quality similar to this presented on photo). Price should be about ~25 euro per one PCB + shipping (~5 euro). Please tell me, how many PCBs You wish to receive in this topic. After some time, I will make an order and ship PCBs to You.

Some details:

This is a recreation of SDS-V drum synthesizer voice board. It allows to build a circuit, that can generate bass, snare and tom tom sounds (and more!). It's like 3 modules in one. More info in topic: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92256&start=all&post days=0&postorder=asc&sid=047d126abdccef63f740267d0f2de33f

What's interesting in this project:
- very versatile drum simulation circuit - bass, snare, toms, metallic sounds end effects,
- no "boring" controls (like click tone),
- resonating filter can be used as second oscillator, f.e. to spice up bass drum or create "cowbell-like" sounds (and possibly more),
- SSM2044 filter can be used separately,
- noise source can be replaced by other source, also you can use filter output as filtered noise output,
- lot of mods possible.

Block diagram:

Topology:
- 4x EG,
- 3x VCA - CA3080 based,
- 1x VCO - triangle and filtered triangle outputs,
- 1x LFO - triangle core,
- 1x noise generator,
- 1x VCF - SSM2044 based. SSI2144 with converter PCB works too!

Controls:
- decay,
- VCO tone,
- VCO sweep,
- LFO -> VCO modulation depth,
- noise tone (filter cutoff),
- noise sweep,
- LFO -> cutoff modulation depth,
- filter resonance,
- noise / VCO balance,
- drum / click balance,
- output level,
- rimshot modulation on/off,
- VCO output filter on/off,
- noise sweep range.

I/O:
- trigger in,
- filter in (replaces noise source),
- filter out / noise out,
- drum out,
- trigger LED.

PCB is designed for some more modifications, not shown in demos:
- LFO speed,
- LFO speed CV in,
- VCF cutoff CV in (not V/oct),
- passive output filter for hi-hat sounds,
- VCO modulation source - EG1 or EG2.

Power consumption - maximum:
- 50mA @ -12V, 70mA @ +12V
- 40 mA @ +15V, 60mA @ +15V

PCB is 80x100mm. Looking at part count I would say, project is advanced. Something like 75% of basic MFOS SoundLab. There are no additional panel-mounted parts - only pots, switches and jacks. Final PCB looks like this below. The design is double-checked and fully functional.

Strange components:
- 3x LF353N (DIP8) - double opamp
- 1x LM301H (DIP8) - opamp with compensation
- 3x LM3080N (DIP8) - transconductance amplifier
- 1x SSM2044 (DIP16) - filter
- 1x generic germanium diode

My "Briareos" drum module, build around this PCB:

Front panel was designed in Inscape:

Some boring videos (all presented sounds are possible with final version):

Demo of finished euro module:

Prototype no. II test, with filter injection feature presented:

Prototype no. I test, without LFO->VCF cutoff modulation:

!!! Warning for MOTM users !!! (thanks to mangros)
[...] for anyone making this with a MOTM power connector - the silkscreen outline is wrong.
The header tab should be at the other side (closest to the board edge). Following the silkscreen will swap + and - and if you don't bother doing the IC pin power checks first, you'll wipe out a few things.

Very cool but expensive project (the strange parts threw me off...) cry

SSM2044 is rare and very expensive to risk e-bay, unfortunatelly

Edit:

If you happen to have all the "strange parts" needed to build this and are willing to throw this little kit, I´ll definetely take it.

I'm in for two!

I'm in for 1.

Nice project and demo's syntherjack SlayerBadger!

My only concern is that rare SSM2044.. Any spares left you can add to the PCB?
Isaiah
HM2040?
The footprint isn't the same, but making an adaptor wouldn't be difficult, I'm sure.
vtl5c3
I'll take one.
donpachi
thumbs up thumbs up Two for me please Guinness ftw! Guinness ftw!
mangros
One please!
baloo
one board for me! Guinness ftw!

Oh wait, SSM2044? My mistake...
Are the 2040 and 2044 compatible?

Hallo!

By "strange components" i ment "components you will propably not get in your local store (but it's possible)". The only real hardcore is SSM2044. Please look at Shruthi-1 topic about SSM2044 filter board, there are some tips where to buy it. I got mine from Utsource, ~35 dollars for 2 ICs with shipping (1 month of waiting), works perfect.

Cheers!
syntherjack
Anyone else? With larger volume it's easier to negotiate the price confused
And for the people, how nice a group of SDSV modules sounds, check this - especially 3:18 drum solo:

And i could be in too !

May I join the queue - one board for me too please?
memorygardens
I will take one.

I'm in for one.
The Big Ear
I'll take one too.

Let's go SSM2044 hunting...

Cheers,
cleahy
I'll go in on one please!
syntherjack
I've added BOM if first post as attachment. If nothing moves, I will start to make PCB order at the and of the week.
Cheers!

I want two! smile
