Good Month for Serge Albums

Post by fowl » Sat May 17, 2014 3:13 pm

First Thomas Ankersmit's exciting new full length composition on Touch and now the completely different David Chesworth re-issue, recorded on La Trobe University's early Serge:

and the Ankersmit again for those that missed the orignal post :

I love Ankersmit's stuff

It would be good to have a list of albums produced using serge as the main or most prominent instrument. Until someone puts that together, any crucial releases come to mind?

Absolutely this. So cool/odd. This Ned Lagin has been on rotation here lately too and certainly feels pretty sergey

^ Seastones uses EML. Emu modular, Buchla, ARP 2500 and Odyssey and some early computer system. Dude had a nice stash of synths.

The Serge Musicians Tape from 1983 is fantastic, as I'm sure most of you know. There was a very brief discussion on it here:

viewtopic.php?t=132466&sid=14a370b7dccc ... cdebb4a9ea

One of my personal favorite uses of the Serge is soundtrack to this great piece of video art. Soundtrack by Stephan Wittwer:

Talking of Serge records there are the formalist/demonstration explorations of single systems as tracks by Benge and Keith Fullerton Whitman:

Recently I've been enjoying Peder Mannerfelt and noticed that alongside some EMS and an MPC60 he uses a panel of Serge as can be seen in this interview:

https://www.residentadvisor.net/features/2708

I have been really enojoying the recently released Bob Ostertag plays the Serge too.

Thanks for the tip! Pre-ordered. I noticed some of the tracks are streamable on Bandcamp (where you can pre-order) and are also available on Spotify.

Is there a dedicated thread for discussing and recommending records that feature Serge systems?

Apologies if self-promotion is a no-no here, but my most recent album came out on spotify this week. It's all serge, with a bit of korg karma:

If I may mention my Tone Science (DiN49) album - 5 tracks of modular self playing soundscapes which has at it's core my 6 panel Serge system bolstered by Eurorack & Roland 100M.

Thanks Johnny Woods.

You'll probably find that one very different to my "normal" output.

I've been mega busy the past couple of years with life stuff n work so I should really start posting some more patches up here. The Serge always finds a way of sneaking into my professional work. Nothing else quite sounds like it.

I've always enjoyed this Thomas Hamilton LP from 1975, a series of pieces on the Serge based off paintings made by Bill Kohn

My friend and me don't even reach up the knees to many of these recordings, but we are releasing a cassette with Serge in a couple of days. This is a live recording.
This is actually the first duo recording with Serge here in Norway. Some years ago I was the first here in Norway who released a Serge cassette too. So the Serge community here are quite limited :hihi:
