help me fill out my system

Author help me fill out my system
justin3am
This is my current system...

...and today I acquired a 6U Schroff rack. I have money set aside for 2 Pressure Points and 1 or 2 Rene sequencers...

...and I have another $500-1000 to help fill the rest of it. I guess I'm just having some trouble deciding what I want to get to fill the system out. I'm interested in the Doepfer Quantizer and Track and Hold (A-152?) but other than that I'm a bit overwhelmed.

My focus thus far has been on flexibility. I make semi-melodic IDM (as much as i hate using that term) but I also do noise/drone/electro-acoustic type stuff, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your help!

Personally, I'd yank the A-132, along with the MFB VCA, the A-131 and A-130.

Slap one or two A-132-3's in there instead. They are great VCA's in both response and sound. Along with the QMMG you have there, that is plenty of VCA versatility for not much money or rack space.

Also since you have some a good amount of different envelopes, maybe yank the two A-140's and put in an MFB dual envelope.

Huh, I hadn't thought about replacing anything but that's a good idea. d'oh! I could sell my A-140s and get an MFB dual ADSR and dual LFO to replace them.

And it looks like the A-132-3s are back in stock! I hadn't seen that. I might as well get two of those in addition to what I already have, 'cause I always end up running out of VCAs.

Thanks. thumbs up

Heh... I didn't realize you already own most of that. Nice system!

Due to the subject line, I thought this was another "here is something im thinking about putting together, please critique" type of thread d'oh!

Yeah, I own everything pictured above except for the two Pressure Points. I'm trying to decide where to go from here.

I guess, my primary goal is to make my system more interactive. The makenoise stuff will be a big part of that but I want to hear about stuff other people are having fun with.

I highly recommend the Bubblesound SEM20 filter because it is versatile and has the classic 70s sound with rich low end. The SEM20 has multiple filter outputs which fed into the vc inputs sound interesting. For drones I would get another AFG and a Bubblesound uLFO. The Topobrillo Triple wavefolder is good for glitchy sounds which can add nice textures. Also for textures the Doepfer A-199 Reverb and A-189-1 Bit Crusher. What about a Rene and a Z8000?

My sentiment exactly. Those two will play nicely together, for sure.

René, Z8k, and an a-152 and you're rolling!
justin3am
Rene is definitely a part of my plans, it just isn't available in the modular planner yet. hihi

I'm not sure if I'm sold on the Z8k. I have however developed a lust for a Doepfer PLL. SlayerBadger!

I can see where you'd get a lot of mileage from a quantizer.

Have you considered moving stuff around, making the new cabinet the control/sequencing bay? Stuff like the Choices and the MFB sequencer might live happily with the new Make Noise stuff.

Didn't you have the Sound of Thunder?
justin3am
I'm actually in the process of rearranging stuff. The 6U Schroff rack will probably end up with most of the signal processing modules and since the bottom 2 rows of the bigger system lay flat I'm going to put all of my sequencers and user interface modules in that case.

I think I'm gonna end up getting a 4ms rotating clock, a Noise Ring, an A-156 and A-152. That, the Pressure Points and Rene will pretty well eat up my budget but I'm still considering the PLL. What I have heard from that thing has been pretty wicked.

Hi everyone!

Just a short question: How did you make these sweet graphics of your rack? Did you use the MegaEurorack website?

Cheers, pbanken

Huh, I wasn't aware of that planner. I just use this one http://mega.modularplanner.co.uk

Yours actually has Rene listed, cool!
