Author Allen Strange - "Electronic Music..." exercises

I've been meaning to do this for a while, and would be great if others Wigglers at large would fancy joining in.

Reading through Allen Strange while away from the modular becomes quite a (delightful) abstract study, and when I realised I'd gone halfway through without doing any of the exercises, I realised I was really missing the point.

So, thought it might be interesting to set up a SoundCloud playlist to group recordings of exercises or practice arising from the bible that is Allen Strange's "Electronic Music: Systems, Techniques and Controls".

Only restriction for the group is to mention on the track which exercise you kicked off from.

my SC playlist can be found here - please do ping your tracks through on SC (PM would be great!) and I'll add them in:
https://soundcloud.com/danjec/sets/allen-strange-electronic-music

(Note: post updated thanks to SC's idiotic idea to get rid of Groups, so I'm trying to find the tracks again to add them back in...)

Great idea. Gives me an excuse to re-read it.

I read through most of the book without touching any of the exercises. This gives me a reason to go back and try them.

Nice idea. Has this been reprinted? Is it available digitally? Amazon's trying to sell it to me for $1000

I've had no luck getting that here in the UK. Tried the route through the publisher but they refunded my money after 6 months.

I don't normally pirate but I'd love a PDF copy if someone has it please!

EDIT: A kind Wiggler has just posted it to me, awesome! thumbs up

I have the first edition which I bought for a small fortune a few years ago - I paid for the digital 2nd edition from the publisher, but lost the copy when a laptop went down -it was a complete hassle to try and use it because of the over-restrictive DRM on the pdf anyway, so I have no scruples in using a rip, as I felt cheated by the publishers. Thanks for sharing the link mate.

As I tried to illustrate with the LMGTFY link in my earlier post, it's the first search result when you google for 'strange electronic music systems pdf'. smile

I got my copy from the US, I think it was 70$ including shipping. Well worth it..

Recorded my first patch, from page 29 (2nd edition) using dc clicks as rythm. I'm instagraming as I find something interesting, then fleshing it out a bit and recording. Recordings I'll finish up and put up toward the end of the day. Until then, my instagram is http://instagram.com/bitreduction

Cool! thumbs up

I like how these excercises highlight the beauty of some of the simplest patches.

Gotta try something with the heterodyning examples.
