Advice needed for a Live setup and drum triggers

Author Advice needed for a Live setup and drum triggers

Hi, I'm a drummer that loves to play with modular synths... I would like to build a special case to play with my accoustic drums and to accompany my existing rack.

3 triggers: Kick, Snare and Floor tom. Have effects and modulation sources. I don't want to pass the accoustic drum sounds in the modular, just trig some sounds and affect it... I have chosen the synthrotek Waterproof case 7U for this. Don't want to use a laptop... Only accoustic, kick, snare, floor, Hats, Crash/Ride and an Octapad for playing a VCO or other sound sources... If you fellow wigglers could check my Live rack idea and give me some advices:

What do you think? What did I miss?

Thanx!!

Well where are you planning to plug your triggers ? You have only one A-119 for three trigs. I personnally use my SSF PTG with two triggers and it's amazing since it can handle external levels and add a vactrol response to the trigs and create really organic enveloppes.

I also have a Clavia Nord Drum that I would recommand for what you are planning to do.

You'll most likely want a comparator for each drum trigger to prevent double/mis-triggering. I'd recommend a step sequencer too.. Step advance per trigger as a modulation source.

My drum triggers will be directly in the 3 modules... It works with peaks too :0)
Figured that I don't need the env Follower.

There is a sensitivity function for each of the 3 modules... Could it do the trick for preventing the double/mis-triggering? A step seq is a great idea... I could do the sequencing with Peaks and Yarns right?

Yeah it should but you might want to check with pulp logic. A window comparator with hysteresis would be better suited to the task. Any sequencer with a clock input will do.

Searching for a drum module that can do modeling like Synthrotek's DS-M...
Tought of Noise Engineering's Basimilus Iteritas... Anyone tried this unit?
My drum trig rack idea: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/177041
I have Braids, Peaks, Disting, A-124(Wasp filter), Yarns and Brain Seed already in my studio rack...

Any recomendations?

Thanx!!!

Any ideas?

I'm pretty happy with the Hexinverter line of mutant drums and the jupiter storm. The new Mutant Machine he announced at NAMM looks like a killer drum synth.

I also like the DS-M. It's a little basic sounding but still pretty neat and easy to tweak.
jenz
Oh yes... The mutant machine looks very promissing...

I think I'll stick to the ModBase... I like the recall presets for live situations...
I hope that there will be an Update like de Mbrane for switching presets with cv SlayerBadger!

Can the ModBase do any type of electronic kick? And more? I heard that it is one of the fattest kicks around...

Decided to put my passive modules (EitherOr, Menqui LPG, DIY Super warp generator) in an empty Big Muff wood box.
Dinky's Taiko, Clouds and Beat Step Pro on the way...

Will be ordering Pip Slope and Eon this year...
Thinking of adding scooper with included wall wart.

Do you use an eurorack compressor in order to link the sound of your acoustic drum with the sound of the modular synth?

That's a good idea... Going to try side-chain compression/env follower with streams...

My previsions have changed and I'm pretty sure about my direction with modular and accoustic drum triggers. My only big question remains: My outs... I want a stereo voltage controlled mixer.
Here are my two predictions:

1- with the WMD Performance mixer... I like all the features but it's a bit cramped for wiggling... If I go this route, I'll need alot of practice with it!
https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/393699

2-With a panmix for drum summing/effects returns patched in the return inputs of the stereomix

What do you think? Have in mind that I'll be playing drums/stopped for wiggling/self-played patches and cv, midi looping.

Thanx!!
