Author tubes and cold weather
FatherMoo
probably a dumb question but i gotta ask -

i live in Canada and will move to a new apartment in January.

My portable Dotcom case and 6550-99 osc are now in a nice heated apartment. I'm worried if i take it outside into the sudden cold, or sudden slightly cold, the tube may crack.

Should I be worried or not? Maybe tubes are tougher than i think?

I had a theory - i thought that on the day when I moved, I'd gradually lower the temperature in my room until it was almost same as outside, and the tube would have time to get used to it. Should I try that?

thanks
Kent
No worries. Not gonna happen in the manner described.

Bands have been travelling all over frozen Canada with their Traynor tube amps for many years now. Power off and let it cool a bit. When you bring it back in, let it come up to close to room temperature before you switch on. This is how gear was treated that had been left out in the trailer or car all night at -40.
