Show us your modified frac ears.

Post by Phineous » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:38 pm

My first DYI project is going to be modifing my rack ears with multi's and 1/4-1/8 patch panels. I have a friend with a metal shop for the drilling.

Lets see some of your ear mods, DYI or custom.

I will post here with mine.

I posted this a few weeks ago, but here it is again. It's a sub oscillator (In, Out, -1 oct out, -2 oct out, -3 oct out) built from Ken Stone's CGS circuit.

I drilled new holes for the Blacet power distr board in order to move it down, and cut away part of bare aluminum that lays on the backside of the actual ear.

The other ears in my racks have mults and attenuators in them. This is the first one I built with any real circuitry or power. Having the end piece to mount the PCB to works out really nice.

Michael Ford (Metalbox) did a few for me in 2007 and 2008. Some blue ones can be seen near the bottom of his custom page, including multis with banana, stereo-mono 1/8, a Psycho LFO, 1/8-1/4" I/Os. http://www.metalbox.com/custom.html

Metalbox Analog Shift Register ear here: http://web.mac.com/rtrelease/AnalogDoma ... ry.html#36

Earlier, I had added some spacers to mount Blacet Multi/Attens and Bargraphs on rack ears (cut PS slots for the latter).

PS If you look closely, further down on page 13 of "Post pics of your Frac setup"
viewtopic.php?t=1572&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=240
you can see an older version of my Frac racks (2008) from the cover of Analog Planetfall, showing both blue and black Metalbox custom ears and the ears with Blacet spacers mounted on them.

My current setup is two 24 U racks side by side, with the blue one having 4 sets of Metalbox custom rack ears. Glimpses of the racks (and ears) in action can be seen on my YouTube Channel:
