I Dream Of Wires premieres today (Aug4) on Netflix USA!

That is great news. I already own the extended Blu-ray but hope other people enjoy this awesome documentary.

Oh, by the way, Solvent, I love your soundtrack. It sounds excellent on vinyl.
SynthCat
Awesome! Now I just have to convince someone to watch it (again) with me lol
authorless

So, what you are saying is I should make a porn spoof: I Dream Of Wieners? Me, my cock, and modular synths.
s o l v e n t
First, cheers for the kind words on my soundtrack LP and thanks for the support of buying on vinyl, coyotedad23!

RE Netflix: Sigh... yeah it ended up getting pulled from Netflix USA but I do believe/HOPE it is temporary. Check back in a few days and HOPEFULLY it will be back up on Netflix USA. Though it won't be in other Netflix territories for a while, and only in some territories. (It did appear briefly today on Netflix UK and Australia too, which it wasn't supposed to... this error is likely the reason it was taken down from Netflix USA too).

I want to say a few words about the diff btwn the Hardcore Edition (which is now OOP, has been unavail for about 5 months, though with a few copies still floating around) and this cut:

For those who've seen the Hardcore Edition - this cut is really quite different, if you're wondering about whether to check it out. A few new scenes added (not a lot, but some), a different narrator that IMO gives the film a more serious tone, and overall I really do feel that it tells the story in a more effective, streamlined way. A lot of great material was cut from the Hardcore Edition, but if I had to choose one to show people - even Hardcore synth nerds like me - I would pick this shorter cut: Robert put a lot more work into it and it is the superior edit by far, IMO. Also, for those who were in the Hardcore Edition, I have to warn you that some of you didn't make the cut here - sorry!

Awww. And after reading what you said about it being a superior cut, I REALLY want to see it now lol.

So it got pulled from Netflix USA in error and it should return soon?

I was going to point that out too!
dude
so i am unclear. is it planned to be on netflix or not? maybe just not yet but still in the cards? what is the clear story. or is it still not clear?
s o l v e n t
I was unclear about if it would be back on Netflix USA, until a few minutes ago... now I can confirm: it will be back on Netflix USA shortly. I don't have an exact date but I expect it'll be within a week, maybe even within a day or 2. I will update when I have info.

I'd like to ask that you please don't ask me about any international Netflix dates, because I don't have any to report yet. It will only be on Netflix USA for now though - the fact that it did appear briefly on Netflix UK and Australia was an error.

Awesome! This is fun! Definitely looking forward to it.

So it's still not available. Do you happen to know if this "superior" cut is exclusive to Netflix, Solvent?
Soy Sos
Hella congrats, Solvent.
I just talked to someone the other day that saw the doc
and got obsessed with modular synths. The project has had great reach.
clarke68
Great news!

Is it on Netflix streaming, or only the "DVD by mail" service?

Cheers. Honestly, you wouldn't even believe some of the stories we've heard. In Berlin, we met a guy who after watching IDOW and then getting into modulars, he decided to make a total career change, ending his successful architecture/design career to work at Schneider's Buero!

It will be streaming on Netflix. In fact I think it should be up today on USA Netflix, but I haven't heard any confirmations. Should be VERY soon though... And coming to some other Netflix territories streaming later this year.
s o l v e n t
Word on the street is that I Dream Of Wires is once again streaming on Netflix USA!
clarke68
The street is correct...just watched it last night.

I agree with you...the new "cinematic release" cut is excellent. I was always curious how you were going to reconcile the two different sections of the Hardcore Edition. This version has a nice flow from the past to the present...the only thing I felt was missing was the extended music performances.

I'm still glad to own the HE (it is, after all, hardcore), but if I were going to show it to somebody to help them understand why I waste so much of my life with modulars, it would be this one.

Well, it's back... but no, it is not at all exclusive to Netflix. It's on DVD, iTunes, Vimeo On Demand (EU only for Vimeo),...

Just finished watching this on the Norwegian iTunes store. As s o l v e n t said, it really tells the story in a more effective, streamlined way. Well worth re-watching, and also worth recommending to friends outside the modular circles.
morphic
wonder when it will be available in the 51st state?

Just came across this now, pretty cool to find! Didn't know it was going to be on netflix.
toddADSR
Instantly recognized Patti's voice from Brave New Waves (CBC Radio) when I watched the new cut on Netflix. Damn I miss BNW, especially the Brent Bambury years.
justin3am
Watched with my wife recently and I really enjoyed it. It held her attention, which is an accomplishment itself.

Vince Clarke is hilarious! That guy needs a TV show.

The music is great. Now I want to see the hardcore edition.

I haven't watched the theatrical version yet, but I bought a copy of it for a friend! thumbs up

Thanks for the support!

IMO, it's really worth watching the theatrical cut. It's a lot better than the Hardcore Edition, it really is... I feel like if you watch Hardcore Edition, you know deep down that it's going to lose most peoples' attentions & that it's mainly a film for the "nerds"... and that was the point of it. But putting in the effort to trim all of the excessively nerdy stuff and boiling it down to a feature-length running time, really makes it into something that has a much bigger impact, IMO. And I mean not only for the uninitiated - even for the nerds, I think the theatrical cut will come across as a much stronger film than HE.
Chiffre
I have Hardcore version which did really enjoy. I pleasantly surprised that enjoy Theatrical version as much or more, it excellent.
starmandeluxe
So I just found this on Netflix, and while it's still great, and I LOVED the Hardcore edition, the narrator change kind of irked me. Something just sounded forced about it. I felt like the British guy's voice was more natural and authoritative (and this is coming from an American Mr. Green) Anyway, still very happy to see it made it to Netflix.
