SH-1oh1 FAQ

Author SH-1oh1 FAQ

A collection of questions about the SH-1oh1 mod we received via email. Also feel free to post your own questions here.

as a general rule of thump: All the features of the original SH-101 are still there. Great care has been taken to maintain the behaviour of the original synth and only add features on top.

Many questions can also be answered by having a look in the
SH-1oh1 user manual

Quote:
I was wondering if the new sequencer still outputs the
cv gate info through the 1/8inch jacks to control other synths?

Yes

Quote:
Can you transpose them?

Currently not. We are however working on an alternative CV routing
algorithm that will allow the external CV to be transposed to an
extend. It will be incorporated into newer firmware versions. Firmware
can be updated any time using midi sysex.

Do you still load sequences in the original way
with the rest button?

Yes. Basic sequencer control is still like in the original. Apart from
rest and glide, with the sh-1oh1 you can also add accents and delete steps.

does the do the new arpeggior mode send cv gate out as well?

Yes

Quote:
does the sequencer still step sync to an external trigger through the original trigger input

Yes. There even is an additional parameter 'trigger hold-off' which you can use to avoid double triggerings. You can also use a built in clock divider for the external trigger.

my question is in regards to sequencer: if i have an steady external
clock coming from Expert Sleepers or some other hardware machine,
there is always a small lag, i.e. notes don't fire away little late.
as if the CPU isn't fast enough to deal with it. i noticed this with
several SH101s, and this is a known and well documented issue.
sometimes its not as obvious and is usable, but far from accurate.
this limits sh101 usability in systems with external clocking.

so, since i see your upgrade basically replaces the existing CPU my
question is: is your CPU substantially faster in this regard, and has
the timing and lag improved with this modification?

With the sequencer turned on, the delay between a clock event and 'gate on' is 2.5ms in the SH-1oh1.
This can not be decreased for the reason, that the SH-101's envelope needs 2.5ms to reset before it can trigger again.

In other play modes the response is of course much faster. See the user manual for detailed timing measurements.

Is the SH-1oh1 compatible with analogue mods such as the NovaMod?

Yes

Quote:
Will there be a similar mod for the MC-202 ?

No. Unfortunately the 202’s processor comes in a SMD package that would make a CPU replacement hard to install. For this reason there are currently no plans for a MC-202 CPU upgrade.

Hey ! At first thanx for upgrading that great synth I use everyday !
Just installed the mod and I have a question about the sequencer.
Is it possible to trigger the sequencer step with a midi note or signal instead of an external trig/clock..
Thanx !

Yes of course, you can change the clock source of the sequencer and the midi clock divider in the config menu or via midi.

Check out chapter 6:

'Arpeggiator, sequencer and
random-LFO clocks'

and chapter 10 'config menu'

in the user manual

Is the external CV transposition coming soon? Very excited to get that feature in the 2 101s I'm planing to get kits for smile
