bass line and drum doodle

Post by parasitk » Mon Aug 25, 2008 6:04 pm

Been messing with this patch since last night - wanted to try making some drums on this thing. Instead of a kick drum though I ended up in bass line territory, and just went with it.

Recorded me messing with it a little and figured I'd post a clip. (Pic of the patch coming soon.)

Featured modules:

- Blacet Dark Star Chaos (snare).
- Improbability Drive + Bananalogue VCS (hi hats)
- Binary Zone + Noise Ring + MiniWave w/ Scale Quantizer (bass line sequence)
- Blacet VCO + Wiard Borg2 in LPG mode, split out to Quad VCA with the Aux out hitting the STG Wave Folder (bass)

It just kinda runs on and on (and on) at the moment, but I'm pretty pleased with the overall vibe and concept.

That sounds rad! I really like the snare too. It sounds a little chip-ish, but not quite.

Very cool, love how much the bassline tones evolve.

i recommend a hat, or a helmet. if a helmet, ensure that it is both convincing and unbiased. -citizen mori

Thanks! Yeah I dig the chipishness of the Dark Star on snare. I had a feeling it'd make a nice snare module.

Thanks, it's just one Blacet VCO into a Wiard Borg 2 filter in low pass gate/vca mode, then split out (main and aux on the Borg) out to a Blacet Quad VCA, with the aux taking a trip into the STG WaveFolder - and the balance/blend being altered during the course of the clip.

Binary Zone and Noise Ring. VCS is tweaking the hi hat, and Frequency Divider is dividing the clock for the snare hits. Hopefully I'll have a pic of th patch up soon (damn camera weirdness).

cool. i read your description, but i guess i didn't understand what each module was doing. i thought the binary was creating the bass line. regardless of which modules you used, and how confused i am, it sounds awesome.

It is! They're all kinda doing multiple things. That's why I want to get the pic up, might make it easier to understand.

Master clock is the Noise Ring. That feeds the Binary Zone. Trigger out of the BZ multiples out to the VCS trigger in and Borg key in. BZ clock out goes to the Frequency Divider.

Ok so mix noise out on the Improbability Drive goes to in A on the Quad VCA. VCS out goes to that VCAs CV in. Output of the BZ goes to the VC Fall in on the VCS. :help:

One of the pair of top outs on the Freq Divider goes to the gate in on the Dark Star Chaos. DSC goes to VCA D on the Quad VCA. The DSC doesnt really respond well to trigger signals, otherwise I'd have sent a copy of that to it and used the onboard attack and decay. Instead the other top out on the FreqDiv goes to the gate in on an EG1, which controls the CV of VCA D.

Inverted out on the BZ goes to a Blacet Mixer/Processor. Main out on the Noise Ring also goes to the M/P. They're mixed together and sent to the MiniWave --> Oakley Little Lag --> 1v/oct in on the Blacet VCO. Out D on the M/P is set to full + Bias and sent to the +/- Oct in on the VCO. Pulse out of the VCO to the in on the Borg filter. A mult of the Noise Ring out goes the the control in on the Borg. Main out on the Borg goes to in B on the Quad VCA. Aux out goes to the Wave Folder. That goes to in C on the Quad VCA. :guinness:

Um, that's the patch! One day I'll have a pic.

I love it! Reminds me a bit of the old Suction Records crew. The bass line is nice and tactile and that snare sounds like a digital slurry! :hyper:

You offering?

This definitely wouldn't be an I, Parasite track at this point, but I have been thinking about doing a collaborative electronic/anything goes side project.

i'd be totally into that. i'm primarily a bass player, but can play some guitar. i've always wanted to get into some kind of online collaboration. let me know if you're interested.
