Kyma Tracks?

Has anybody here made some decent Kyma tunes/demos in track format, rather than from a more purely sound design perspective?

I'm just curious to hear what all the fuss is about. I've never used Kyma, but I'm pretty keen with puredata and supercollider-- I've never been able to get them to sound particularly nice, though I love them for sequencing.

I use Kyma for all manner of things, from bizarre, experimental stuff to more conventional compositions. Take a listen to "Space is Disgraced" on this page:

http://www.blrrecords.com/prod/2192/cosmic_space_drone.html#.VpwHTBEzb 8s

I made this almost entirely with only a handful of loops from the "Cosmic Space Drone 1" from the same album, all processed in various ways in Kyma. There is a little VCS3 and 5U in there, too, mainly in the original tracks. I used my modular system and Kyma to treat the vocals as well (Edward Ka-Spel from Legendary Pink Dots) as well.

A more conventional, synthy tune can be found here:

That one was done entirely with various wavetable-based synths I made in Kyma.

I threw a Bjork sample into the SampleCloud and triggered it with midi for this. Lots of the reverbs are also from Kyma as well. Adjusting the reverb size results in some of the most epic swooping sounds I've ever heard. I usually use Lemur on my iPad and just have a screen full of faders to control the VCS in Kyma.

Here's the raw Bjork track, I fucking LOVE Kyma. I only have a one card Capybara system and am still amazed at what I can pull out of it. Damn can't believe this is three years old already!

I also use it to build drum sounds.

Thank you. The original version is a monolithic space rawk track with fuzz bass, drums from fellow wiggler Ty Hodson and synths from myself and AMJ mainman Abert Anonymous. And of course, the inimitable Mr. Ka-Spel doing the spoken word thing he does so well. Working with these guys was a dream come true for me.

Are you guys on Paca(rana)s or Capybaras?
Scot Solida
I'm using a Pacarana, but I still have my Capybara 320 (though I have sold or traded the extra cards I had in it).

Great tracks. I've been debating getting a Kyma system. These might push me over the edge.

I'm finally finding some home time to get into my studio (took forever, travel jobs are not conducive to completing studio work). I have a cardless Capybara whose use will justify either moving up to a Pacarana or not.

Very neat tracks!

Chris Carter is selling Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson's Kyma system which was last used on the X-TG Desertshore album --- http://throbbing-gristle.com/CHRISCARTER/content/technical.html

this is a dream purchase but I unfortunately could only maybe offer half its value and I imagine that someone here could give it a loving home... waah

I used to use Kyma quite a bit but eventually sold my paca.

Why? Firewire is awful. Also now as tempted as i am i just believe this kind of thing needs run natively on your computer given the amount of time you have to invest in it to get anywhere you don't want to chained to desk.

Would much rather put my energy into reactor or max/msp nowadays

I have a capybara 320 that I rarely use. Never really clicked with me but I am amazed at what others create with kyma.

Here are a few little studies I've done with my paca - though they are not "tracks" as the OP seemed to be interested in, so apologies for that...!

I'm only about 5 years in, still lots to learn, but it's an infinitely flexible tool once you get into it.

John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin uses the Kyma on a few solo albums. Tracks 1, 2, 4, 7, 9 on this one:

And also Amon Tobin - though I don't know what songs specifically used the Kyma/Pacarana system. Here is a video of how he used it for his ISAM album/tour:

really digging that track! I'd love to know more about how you're using it to make drums! are you actually synthesizing them or resampling stuff? do you do any drum sequencing in kyma? I really wanna get more into the sequencers but for my work i've mostly been using kyma for sample manipulation/resynthesis.

I personally, really want to dig more into kyma's musical aspects, as all of my dayjob work stuff is really just straight sound design.
