im a lover off all thing related to synthesis and do sound design via all methods from analog to digital to dsp to sampling fm am csound dsp

this is a doodle using some free dsp modules for the scope modular using the scope pro dsp cards

these use sharc chips and are very good sounding in that john bowen of moog /sequencial/korg/then solrais and his dsp emulations of pro one waldorf wave and others created synths and modular modules which i also host

http://www.bcmodular.co.uk/

this is where we create new modules i did a great phaser based on j.haible designs and did the polymoog resonator and some filter designs by adding vca as the core and using expo convertors for the frequncy control

this doodle is one that is made up of some of these modules

and using defective records sequencer which is based on old analog sequencers but in vsti

this is using an sy99 i like hybrid synthesizers and the sy99 is right up there fm with 15 start waveforms pcm playback and rcm modulation from samples

for this i samples some static waveforms from the arp2600 arp solodgx

and then made multisamples with them then you can layer upto 4 but i like to use 2 and 2 afm layers and use the samples to modulate the fm carriers you get some great sounds that are really hard to make by any other synthesizer

the sy77/99 also have digital filters there are 2 in series both 12db but have separate frequency controls and res so you can do dual modulated sweeps which is nice and each layer gets this so thats 4 dual filters so by changing the all filters to modulate differently you can get lots of movement its nice to have the filters for the fm as it makes the sy99 sound very analog compared to standard fm synths

dan nigrin creates some great sequencers based on analog sequencers he did a great Klee emulation

i like to use them with midi for synthesizers that are digital which can sound great with these sequencers

these are doodles created with my user samples and the sy99

whats good if you dont have a sequencer for modular you can then use the vsti and use a midi to cv converter and use it with your modular synth

i love drum and bass was there when it first started in the early 90,s and rob smith of smith and mighty was a friend of ours and still is he remixed this track of ours but we havent released it yet

being an ex employee of ensoniq until 1997 i worked with a lot of keyboards and one of my favorite is the asr10 because of its transwave capability

and 8 layers you can do some massive sounds with it and the asr10 because its asic does all the sound shapping what you put in alsways sounds great through the chip you can do am fm sync type sounds you can make the oscillators have drift via noise to pitch at extremes making it sound matalic

i started the transwave synth group and did workshops on how to program sounds for the beast

todas there is generator serum komplexer and other wavetable synths but the asr10 was doing this in 1990 and full audio rate wavetables are so smooth

with audioterm which mathias gurk the coder added efe support several years ago its really easy to create scannable wavetables

i like doing mine in 8 bit for that grungy sound then linear upsampling them to 16bits by padding the lsb with zero,s

[s]https://soundcloud.com/jhulk/cz101-xwave-03-patch-example[/s]

this one was created by sampling the waveforms from a cz101 then creating transwaves by adding the waves like the cz101 then using the envelopes to create the phase modulation like the 8 stage envelope on the cz101 the ensoniq can do looping envelopes so you can really do some made things and you can modulate modulators js just like analog modular synths very creative

this is a sampler the asr10 is a very flexible tool

i love squeezing every ounce of hybrid pcm synths the t1 is a m1 on steriods it sounds great and very expressive it has 1mb only of pcm playback and 100 samples slots

i like to create tiny pcm sounds then create patches out of them love to sample noise through resonator and create choirs

i like to sample modular noise at c6 then use the transpose engine to do the lower notes then play the sounds at c2 which glitches and gurgles

like to take small static waves from string synths then use the chorus and effects of the t1 to create swirly string sounds

there is a youtube video with some one doing an examples using my pcm disks it shows you can do a hell of a lot with little resources
