[EURO] my megamult

Post by consumed » Wed Sep 03, 2008 11:23 am

ive designed a mega multiple that will fit in 8HP.
at first i thought to eliminate the middle row.
however, i decided it is worthwhile to have it and not use it, than to not have it.

explanation: the circled jacks are normalled to the jacks below.
so if nothing is plugged into the normalled jacks, you have a continuous 7- or 6- mult.
if you plug into the jack, it breaks the normalization, giving you two mults.
(i got this idea from paul/motm, who configures his mults like this.)
let me know what you think of the design. ill probably order it tomorrow.

well, after laying my parts out it looks like the graphics are really far too weak to indicate function successfully. so im bolding the design (below) and printing it out tomorrow for another layout to see how it looks. for example, the circles around the normalled jack were hardly discernable. the design is really ugly this way but will look way different with hardware in place.

so the panel is sitting at about $40 right now (it came up from around $33 because of the heavier engraving). at five pieces, the price would come down $4. i'd be happy to share the fpe or go in for a group buy but it might not be so practical for those not in the US/canada due to the closer proximity of schaeffer in germany.

I'm in as well, especially if the panel ends up being anything <$20.

you should invert the way the graphic is though, and circle the top jack of the bottom section....

because arrows pointing upwards are more positive for your mind and your music than arrows pointing downwards

ive been fiddling with designing, printing and laying the hardware out on it.
im settling on this design as better for a few reasons.
its a little cheaper, more sturdy (four mount holes) and simpler design that works better with or without washers on the nuts.
muff, i took your recommendation under advisement but i just dont want to have to think two ways about my multiples between formats (is it UP or DOWN?).
(if i had something to publish HPGL files with, this design would be much nicer)
this design comes in at $34.98 (front panel express, US).

EDIT: very slight change to graphics and price.

update: im settled in on the first design below.
so i know a few of you are interested in this design in part or in full.
ive posted the FPD file so you can do with it what you want.
the cost savings for 5-9 panels is only a few bucks/panel so a group buy is not really cost-effective, sorry.
this panel has been designed for jacks: mouser part# 16PJ011.
(these jacks are NOT a visual match for any manufactured euro modules.)
you will probably need to change the diameter if you're using another jack.
now--was anyone looking for a fully assembled module?
im considering building up five of these, but they will cost about $75 each, which is not particularly cost-effective if you compare to a pair of assembled doepfer mults.

this image is closer to the actual size (so you can see how cramped it might be):
