Insanely annoying ZED r16 problem

Post by sunnyb » Tue May 24, 2016 10:18 pm

I've had this incredibly annoying problem with my R16 for almost a year. I've included videos and a photo to help show the problem. I've also posted this in gearslutz so sorry if you see this twice, I'm just losing my mind with this and need to figure it out..

I'm getting a popping digital sound if digital return buttons are pressed in. This never occurs right when I turn on the board, but begins anywhere between a few minutes to an hour after the board is turned on. It also occurs without the R16 being connected to my computer. The digital click occurs repeatedly and increases in frequency the longer the mixer is on. The volume of the click depends on the channel fader volume of the channels with the digital returns pressed. Sometimes it does not occur at all. Usually i know it is going to begin occurring by a single digital clicking sound.

This is what it looks like:

Every time a digital click occurs, I get a spike in material being recorded. This is shown in the following picture:

This video shows that the spikes/clicks occur in all channels:

Lastly, it increases in frequency when I detach my firewire cable, as can be seen in this video:

This is absolutely driving me crazy. I've tried reinstalling the driver and firmware but the problem hasn't been resolved. Please help !

Should also ad I sent this to A&H and they couldnt find a problem...

Did you find a solution to this? I've had the same issue. In for repair at Allen and Heath who changed the dig return switch. This got rid of the visible distortion on the meters but can still here it when volume right up and its coming through the channels within DAW. This is the only post i have found online that gets this distortion without anything connected. Thanks
